fet mods are for reg ZZ's and old SE's. since you already have a new SE, you don't need fets. BTW, welcome to the world of micro rc.:D

any info for 3rd gen SE owners

So what other modifications are worthwhile for 3rd gen SE owners?

In particular I'd like to know about different charging options for SE's.

I really don't have any problems with the SE's performance, I'd just like to be able to run the thing for more than a minute or two.

Also I've seen several steering fixes for the SE cars, but are any of them applicable, or beneficial for a 3rd gen car?

The third generation SEs have the steering fix. You should get equal steps in both directions. On most of them the jittery centering problem was fixed too.
I've found the 3rd gen SEs are good out of the box with a stock gear/motor configuration.

One of my cars is a viper dated I think 08/04, the other is a Torino dated 02/04. ($15 is cheap for an SE chassis, built a 77 SE TransAm) They both are pretty decent with having equal steering left and right, however they both still chatter a fair bit. The Viper might be alittle bit better than the Torino, but I don't see any obvious differences, at least without having pulled the boards up. I don't really care about the chattering so much as it doesn't really affect the way the cars run.

But... I'd still like to see a run time improvement so any ideas on a better charger, charging method for the cars?

Also does anyone know if it's possible to purchase the NOS motor seperately from RS? Maybe if they have a replacement parts system, order a replacement motor for one of the SE body/performance kits? Or if Radioshack would offer a update their performance kit and include the purple motor. I suppose I could probably purchase the Initial D kit and use the lights for some better bodies.

Actually one more question, has anyone attempted petitioning RS to get some more/different bodies available? Would be nice if even some of the starter kit only bodies were available in just a body kit, like the Ford GT, Viper, etc. I wouldn't mind having a Dodge Ram SRT-10 body, which should be pretty easy to make considering they already mold a regular Dodge Ram body.

shingo420, look up the "DC mod" in the search function. Codesuidae has a web page explaining many mods for the SE.

Uh, why doesn't he need FETs? They are supposed to work great with the 3rd gens.

Yup.

fets

Ok, I've read the FET mod page and understand how to do it, but can someone explain it too me? What characteristics will it actually change, and are there any drawbacks?

I 'think' my 02/04 Torino is actually a 2nd gen SE as it doesn't seem as fast as my 3rd gen 08/04 Viper, so I would considering the fet mod.

Also I'd still like to know about a better charger for the SE's.
