gooey stuff?

does anyone know what the white greasy stuff is on the fets?...and does it have to be on there for some reason?

[edit}
or better yet, could you take that whole metal piece out to save weight?

tigger94 12-20-2004 02:35 PM

that would be to help get the heat from the fets to the heat sink better

i wouldnt take the metal peice out if you want to save weight just drill holes in it

tigger94 12-20-2004 02:58 PM

i want with 18 awg wire and it is a tight squeze to fit the wire in if u can get the 16 awg wire to fit then use it .. are u planing to drill the board out to fit that wire in or are you goin to make a no drill harness

The gooey stuff you mention is thermal grease, and that metal part is the heatsink. I'd suggest leaving it there, or if possible, replace it. You can get thermal grease at CompUSA.
