Universal Body Mounts
 

Hey all,

I've been working on a couple of different bodies for my long chassis. Most of the mods are incredibly easy to do. The one I've been having the most problems with is mounting the rear part of the body to the chassis. However, I think I have come up with a fairly simple way that should work for most model bodies.

Unfortunately I don't have any pics yet because I've had trouble finding the kind of plastic I want (living in Canada can suck sometimes).

Now for this mod you will use a normal RS rear clip. I'm talking about the black thing at the back of the RS bodies that goes down through the chassis and then you secure underneath. I hope that description is clear enough.

Note: This is much easier to do if you leave the windows out until all the fabbing is done.

Now, you need to make sure everything is measured out because fitment is important. Now, what you need to do first is make sure the body is sitting how you want it. Then mark the sides of the inside of the body where the hole for the rear clip is in the chassis.

Then what you need to do is cut a piece of plastic that will run from one side of the body to the other. Make sure when you do this that you have the rear clip already clipped into the chassis so you can determine the height of the plastic, because most car bodies are curved from top to bottom so if you just pick a random heighth then your plastic will most likely end up being to short or too long. Then attach the plastic to both sides of the body and attach the rear clip to the piece of plastic.
Use whatever size plastic you want and secure it however you want. I use model epoxy which is fairly sticky stuff. You shouldn't have any problems with the components in the rear of the chassis because the way the rear clip sits when it is secured should leave the plastic well above all the rear components. I think you could do something similar for the front. Just put a little strip of plastic down the middle and make a slot in it for the tab on the front.

That could defintitely work. The way I did this one is quite simple... The bumper that came with the model kit had a hole in it (looks like an opening to allow air to an intercooler or something) so I just centred the tab in there and epoxied some plastic on both sides so that when it is in the hole it is snug. I just happened to luck out that doing this made the wheels line up in the wheel wells but Murcielago659 is right. The same principle can definitly be applied to the front.
