read the descriptions under the pics of the car and you gotta see the video, man i just ordered the track and 2 cars. looks like the best designed micro ever!!!!!! it sux that i just made a track out of black fold up cardboard, rope, and zip ties. it works perfect and puts away easilly but this surpasses it by far.

This has been out for a while. Check out www.xxap.com. I have been in contact with the manufacturers and they are still dealing with distribution to major retailers. Best feature of this bit is the lithium IP battery for 30min run times.

You ordered two of those Metl Tech cars huh? How much?

Yup, that's the controller, unfortunately. There's another thread on this at the bit char-g forum.

The car makes up for the controller:

the motor is twice as big
proportional steering (21 steps each way) and acceleration
30 minute run time

I've known about the specs for these cars for a while now. I have also contacted the manufacurer some time ago. I did not have the information concerning the models you listed. That is interesting.

These cars do seem to have a lot of potential, but that controller looks pretty disappointing.

If the other posts around the internet I have read are correct, these cars will be retailing for around $70-$80....oh, hell no.

That is a big mistake as far as I am concerned. They will be selling very few of them at that price, especially with that controller and the lack of suspension. They need to get the price closer to a ZZ SE. If that price was halved, for instance, they would be making a killing. If you really want one, get it quick....I don't think they are going to be around long.

If the things perform as well as they look the price tag is about right. I mean, folks shelled out the doe for Epochs because they were quality. The controller is my only gripe, but I haven't used one yet to see how it works. 'Sides, depending on frequency and crystal adaptability, another controller may be available to swap out. Again, like the Epochs. Or are these things IR?
I for one have been waiting some time for a true hobby class HO scale car. Not sure if this is it, but it looks promising.

I have yet to see one of these things actually running. So performace and range are still unknown. No suspension and a controller that looks ergonomically worse than a ZZ controller. Hmmmmm....

You are nuts if you think a lot of people are going to shell out $80 for these things.

Perhaps a better comparison would be to a Puchi. Lotsa folks shelled out over 100 bucks for those. They died of course due to a lack of body styles inherantly connected to very high profile electronics.
Depending how these new cars are marketed, I can see them doing very well.
This is based on what has been written about them so far and from what I can gleen from videos, but it looks good so far. Excluding controller worries of course.
The price tag is mute if they really deliver the goods. I look at my collection of Zips, divide by three (roughly), and there sits several of these new cars. Twenty five a pop is great, but isn't really the issue once you have over a dozen in your collection.
I would probably end up with 4 or so, at that price if they are as good as reviewed. I wouldn't have 20 or more like my current collection, but I don't know why I need that many anyways:D .
I have two Epochs because I wanted the performance they offer, but don't need more than that at their price range. Some people litteraly have dozens of them. I suppose, as in all things, it's a matter of balance.

Az....I get your point. But, you proved my point to a degree with the Puchi's. They didn't last. I don't know many people that have them to be honest. If these cars are as good as they look and were priced more reasonably, they would be around for a while and support the creation of new body styles. I'd love to see a hobby class 1:64 scale rc come along and stick around...with occassional releases of new body kits on a rolling chassis....sort of similar to what Kyosho does with the mini-z.

That Tx is killing me though. The Epoch had a decent looking Tx....not to mention they were 1:43 scale.

Me niether, but the point is that they were very hot once. They died because of the crappy mini van bodies and electronics that would not allow low profile bodies to come along. The price didn't kill them, the lack of body styles and add ons did.
If you look at the entire micro propo market, you see two types of product that have come along so far. Cheap cars that are barely propo, and expensive cars that are very nicely propo. The only two to fit that last catagory so far are the Puchis and the Epochs. Epochs don't really count because of their scale. That leaves only one other fully propo product in the upscale bracket. It didn't last because of the electfonics profile not allowing sleek little bodies to fit the chassis. It wasn't the price. Though, I'm sure it slowed sales as I didn't buy one primarily because of a "wait and see" attitude toward the price dropping. The same will happen to this new car in the beginning. But, there seems to some major differences between this car and the ill fated Puchi. It looks tight, compact, and race worthy. There are already several body styles being offered, and there are (as I understand it) three chassis types to choose from. This is a good solid base for a beginning product line. And you get all of this choice for 20-40 less than a Puchi. If sucessful, I'm sure more add ons will become available. Cost can come down and more folks can enjoy them.
I'm just glad people bought VCRs when they first came out at 500.00. They drove the industry and sparked demand which lowered production costs through quantity. Now, I can go get a VCR for 40.00. Amazing how support for something can make it cost less for everyone.
I'm willing to bet dollars to donuts that if a huge corporation offered these things, they would be half the cost in the initial offering. But, I think this product is being developed by an individual and that means shorter production runs and, therefore, higher price. If we really want a high end of performance in this scale, perhaps we should consider supporting the individuals who are trying to develop the products for us. Or, we can bash and kill them before they even hit the market and tell everyone I told you so. In this way, we can ensure that 1/64 scale will never go beyond the child's toy level. Agreed. If the guy is smart, he'll offer a "hobby" TX for the more serious consumer. I'm getting the impression that the TX is the equivalent of "a paint job and a set of tires" to the average hobbiest. It may well make or break a product in the upscale end of the market. When price dictates percieved quality, quality must be dripping from all pores. Especially the TX.
Even if that little crappy keyring TX is an absolute break through in RC technology, most people will percieve it as being cheap. And in this price range, perception may be more important than actual performance.

Thanks for the nice comments about the track Zydio, I hope you do not think that I am actually selling the metl-tech racers - they are not available yet, and when they are it will be thru XXAP in the USA - but if you want to order a track I still have about 15 sets sitting in sunny florida.

Mods - can you merge the two threads, bit confusing hopping from one to the other.

Only time will tell whether these cars will be successful. I hope that they will be and that they live up to expectations. I have the same concerns that most people have about the looks of the controller and the lack of a suspension system. I do believe that there is a market for a premium priced 1/64 scale rc car just like there was a market for a premium priced 1/43 scale Epoch.
