1:24 scale models?

has anyone tried to use a regular model as a shell for there xmod? i was looking to try it but wanted some heads up on it first? good or bad idea?

from what I understand, that is what people use and just attach it with velcro.

that looks awesome so bassically i should stay with the Tamiya hatchbacks or something, i also was wondering if alot of the mini-z bodies fit on the xmod?

but i went to my local hobby shop and opened a couple boxes but the wheel wells were not matching up with the wheels

any suggestions?

I don't have any experience with the mini z bodies, but I hear they work well. You could use any tamiya kit, but the body will have to be shortened, or you could build a custom extendable chassis ( although it would be much more difficult)

i cant seem to find any models that would fit? anyone got any ideas?

hotrod29728 08-06-2004 10:16 PM

Lord_Helmet34 did you lengthen the chassie or did you shorten the body? Just wondering...

i used to have a couple model bodies done up for my XMOD but by the time i got some velcro they had been destroyed. im doing a body of one of those nikko 1 channel off road cars. since i cut off the big roll/light bar and bed rails its lookin pretty good

Nice job micro kid... Mind if I try the idea on my own and see how it turns out? Lemme know...:)

what scale did you use? 1:24,1:25????

any sanding required help?

I have a Mini-Z RX-7, which has a fairly average wheelbase. It's like 1:27.4, and needed the interior clips on the inside of the doors sanded completely off, and the front wheel well sanded back about a centimeter. Bigger-scale models never have the right wheel well proportions, and you have to just Bondo over the entire well and grind out your own to make them look right.

Velcro has a tendency to bounce the body around a bit.
Unless you go nuts with it - it's better to just modify the front clip.

if you mean using a body or anything like mine sure go ahead hot rod.

Thanks Micro kid... I am probably going to use a Chevrolet S-10 body for mine... I'm not much for Dodges... Thanks again...:)
