4.2 motor, 2.4v mod,but...
... what gear ratio should i put in, or should i jsut stick with the stock ratio? (and if u say the 3:1 where do i pick it up) I figured id want more low end torque as using a faster 4.2 and a 2.4v mod, would counter act the lose of high end torque. Am i wrong to think this?
o and a 8:1 has more or less low end torque then say a 12:1? more right?? Also im planing on using either stock tires or soft ones is this a good idea, and are there any soft tires that are black and not colored. |
Your right, 12:1 gears has more torque then 8:1 gears. :)

12:1 provides more torque.
8:1 provides more speed, but would take longer to get to high speed. And I think I speak for all of us when I say: WHAT is high end torque? Using the higher speed motor will *almost always* reduce the amount of torque, even though it can give you more horsepower. Try it with 8:1, if it takes too long to spool up to top speed (more than a couple seconds) back it off to 9:1 or 12:1. If you don't like the way it handles come back and we'll talk about tire compounds. |
12:1 meaning the pinion gear(motor gear) turns 12 times to make the axle gear turn only 1 time.
12:1 gearing makes more torque(twisting force), while 8:1 gearing makes more power. Its a choice you make depending on the track your racing on. Choose 12:1 gearing for hills, and tracks with more sharp turns. Use 8:1 gearing for higher top speed, and for tracks with long straights. have fun :D |

low end torque is the torque at lower rpms
high end torque is the torque at higher rpms sorry lol these terms derive from the auto world and rpms, but i figured since the motor isnt always going the same rpm all the time (the motor doesnt just start spinning at the top rpm) that having a gear ratio that would have more torque off the start off line (lowend) would make the car quick, however this would make the top speed of that gear ratio lower, but this would be counter acted by a faster motor which would bring the top speed back up. basically im trying to find a gear ratio/motor(4.2 w/ 2.4v) set up that would created the highest top speed with the greatest amount of torque off the start off line (lowend). Thus making it quick off the line and fast over a distance note: the reason why some cars are fast off the start off line is because the have a lot of low end torque or torque when the rpm is lower (in this case from zero and up or off of line). However cars with a lot of high end torque will start off slow beacuse they dont have as much torque off the line but once they get rpm's higher the car has more torque. In 1st gear of a normal car there is more low end torque then say 5th this is what allows 1st gear to get the car moving and causes the engine to stall if attempted a start off in 5th gear. there has been a recent VW comercial advertising VW's to have more lower end torque and thus more accleration at lower rpms and the passing of cars easier. a gear ratio with more low end torque will usually be "short" that is to say that it will top out rather quickly |
i think ill go with more low end torque (1:8-12) as even tho it wont have as much power/top speed (high end torque) as say 1:3 ratio the 4.2 motor and 2.4v mod should give back some speed
however more input is welcomed LOL someone needs to make a super mini trany for these thigns then we could shift gears. Think of all the fun of down shifting, drifting, o my |
Well then, I don't think these cars have low/high end torque. MS/BC-G's are always going full speed or no speed, unless you have a booster car, and then it won't make much of a difference.

A 4.2 motor doesnt just start spinning at 42,000, or what ever its rated speed is, when u hit foward. The motor like any thing else that starts moving needs to accelerate up to is top speed. This is why in math problems dealing with distance, rate, and speed the problem usually states that there is somthing called constant speed Meaning that the motor is always going at a spcific speed and does not take time to spool up if will Perhaps i got to techinical with the question as a BCG is on a rather smaller scale with no tranny and with a miniature electric motor that actually starts quite quickly Driving in real cars i have to say that i love the fell of torque over that of speed. The felling of mass acceleration that comes from good torque is always a good felling. ahh yes shiffting and feeling ur head being sucked back o yeah. Because i love torque over top speed i think i will go with a gear ratio that puts or more torque. The way i look at it the thing will be going pretty fast with a 4.2 and a 2.4 mod againts the stock set up that ive been use to for 2-3 years or so lol i got my bcg way back in the day from hobby link japan way before the american ZZs came out lol, but it was recently that my homies got some ZZs or somethign from radio shack and it inspired me to find out whats out there for these cars. Low and behold lots of things had changed. Man o man you guys have some pretty crazy mods and parts for these thing now |
