team orion install problems??

ok i installed the motor ,but the gears dont match up, therefore no take off when the throttle is hit? am i missing something ? all i did was hook it up .

BTW: when i hit the throttle on forward it tries going backwards ,but most of the time it doesnt move?

Try propping the end with the leads up so that the pinion on the motor makes better contact with the gear. It won't be flush, so it'll be prone to popping out if you hit any huge bumps, but you should be good on smooth surfaces. If the motor's responding inversely to the controller, then reverse the positive / negative leads on it.

This motor's becoming really popular; there are a whole lot of threads about it already. You can search for them if you've got any other questions about it. :)

tried switching the pos & negative but when i did i got nothing, ill try propping the back end up and see what happens .

yea i looked ,but most ask what motor is good , i need a tutorial on this .

Yes, you have to reverse the polarity of the leads, or your motor will run backwards. My motor is propped up a little at the back (front of the car). I didn't plan on this, it's just how those *huge* solder joints allowed it to sit. My gear mesh, however, is fine. I'm sure if you dork around with it enough you'll get it to work.

I snipped my tabs off short to allow the motor to sit level. I don't have any gear mesh issues. You are using the XMods 11T pinion, right, and not one from a different RC car?

opps! lol ,no i used a different one .but is there anyway to get them off w/out a pinion remover?

ok got the 11th pinion on the motor now , as far as the polarity do i just switch the positive motor plug to the negative on the motor and vice versa?

Rez 03-12-2004 10:43 AM

Yeah, pretty much. You just switch the wires so the car's red wire goes to the motor's black wire, and the car's black wire goes to the motor's red wire. Or you can detach the motor's wires and switch them (like I did). I'm in Norfolk, too, so I can help you out if you need it.

I have a pinion puller too, but it's in the process of destroying itself after just a few pulls :(

You can also swap the magnets to get the correct rotation.

dolfan03 03-12-2004 03:06 PM

-ok got it running , thanks everyone. one more question do i have to use the resistors w/ this motor? right now im not using them and the motor works fine.

SuPrBuGmAn 03-12-2004 03:08 PM

Its a good idea to use the resistors, they will keep the motor from throwing power back into the ESC while the motor does any kind of coasting...

Remember, these little motors are pretty much small alternators.

My car cant run i need to get the pinion off my motor. No one here has pinion pullers. How can i get it off?

Buy a pinion puller.

00black_civic 03-13-2004 05:50 PM

They dont sell them anywhere near me and all the sites are sold out. I said that in my reply. But i found a way to get it off. I destroyed a motor trying but hey. NEVER use fire to get it off when we grabed it with the pliers it just flattened it and melted alot of my motor. But our second attempt worked great and didnt mess up the motor, we used a punch and hamer stuck the motor in a bracket we had lying around and just whacked it out.
