My X-Mod's handling 15 volts!

Yes, you read it right, I put a 9 volt ON TOP OF the regular 4 cells, and it still runs (though I think I'm gonna need a better servo). I don't have enough room to run it out, but it sounds good, and the body barely sticks up. I'll post pics later.

This is a really, really bad idea!

First, when you run different types of batteries, with diffrent mAh's and volts, you run the risk of charging the batteries that are in series after the 9V. They will most likely explode.

Second, you're electronics will not last!

Did your left joint cup break yet?

spitty12 02-05-2004 12:51 PM

Lets just ignore this guy and hope he gives us pics of the battery explosion or damaged parts. This is the dumbest idea I've heard of, EVER!

viperdout 02-05-2004 05:31 PM

Hey! Yeah, it is a bad idea to run all of the time. The motor gets really hot. The servo twitters like an SE, and it shuts down, (at least the motor side) after about 2 min. This thing's for the 1:28 1320. Yes, I don't think this X-Mod will last, but that's why I'm putting on quick release so I can switch between a 6 cell, and when someone thinks I'm slow, to swap to this. It's nuts. Later.

Are you sure your fets didn't burn out? Do you know the specs of the stock RS Fets? Post a vid I would like to see it :D

viperdout 02-05-2004 08:41 PM

The fets haven't burned out. At 6 cells, I think that the servo got fried slighly, because there's a bit of the SE "stutter", but it still runs, which is a good sign. I came up with an idea, so that the 2 x-tra aaas have a 9 volt plug in. The body is about a mm from closing (have about 4 mms w/ 9 volt), and overall, I like these cars. 15 volts is extreme, and I can't get it up to full power on my floor. Lemme film a vid, and I'll show you.

Edit: cam batt dead, so I have to film really closely.

viperdout 02-05-2004 09:05 PM

hold on.

viperdout 02-05-2004 09:09 PM

how's this: http://www.rcpics.net/view_single.php?medid=23583 .

Video is really dark even with contrast adjustments. I could see 9V but nothing else :( I hear it running, but it brings up the question where did you hook up the 9V?

newbitowner 02-05-2004 10:41 PM

sounds like your gears aren't meshing well

the electronics must get REALLY hot

viperdout 02-06-2004 08:19 AM

Yup, the motor is really hot w/ a heatsink. It meshes well. Anyway, gotta go, I post more pics later.

paramus eh.... im from morris county... :P

viperdout 02-06-2004 01:51 PM

yeah, sorry, I'm filming w/ a digi cam (Sony P9). The batt plugin is over the crystal, and the batt's behind that. That's what happens when you make a vid at 10:00 at night. I use the 9 volt connector as a quickrelease, as I wired another one to my 2 extra cells, so I can change them really quickly.

Is that a challenge?

Spitty, I don't hear you saying, "I'm sorry." Oh, and I got the bod to close w/ 6 cells.
