Poor Perormance (cough*help bc*cough)

I have just been getting back into my x-mods and have been really dissappointed in the performance of them. im thinking that its just because most of mine are early production samples (before anything hit the market so dont crap your pants and never buy one again).

Main problems include somthing with my turning locking up for an unknown reason only occasionally(have opened everything up and the problem just goes away and comes back later), range (the car gets like 10 feet away and dies... not stutter, death), stuttering, motor performance (everything running unusually slow), and speed in general is lacking.

if anyone has comments or can help any of these problems id really like their input. i really think that it is just because these things are production samples. i will most likely end up getting a new set of everything to replace all this crap that im working with now. just means more scrap parts and body tops to paint.

Check the L2 inductor near the Command Logic port.

lol i was tinkering with it the other day and the wire that connects to the antenna broke off, guess thats not helping at all.

i think its just cuz these are all peice of **** pre-production samples. im tryin to get access to the ones that are being distributed.

No, it's not just yours...all XMods have terrible solder joints. I've broken about 15.

On a related note, one thing I have noticed about XMods is that the perfomance from one car to another can vary widely. Last night, there was a kid running a Skyline with a stage 2 blue motor, and it was quite fast, even on the track. (the 10x20 large road course as shown on XModsRC.com) This is entirely contrary to my own experiences with the same motor/gear setup. In my cars, that motor was a dog. I'm not sure why this is, especially considering the amount of attention I pay to the mechanics of the car working as smoothly as possible.

We put a few cars on the Tamiya Speed Checker to see how they were doing. One car hit 27kph with a stage 2 yellow, and no other mods. Not even bearings. The kid with the stage 2 blue hit about the same speed. A couple of kids with bone stock cars struggled to 15kph. Another with a stage 2 drift hit 21kph, while another hit 19kph with an X-Speed with an 8 tooth pinion.

Quality control definitely needs some improvement, but we all knew that already.

maybe they were running different batteries, or they were less of a charge in the slower cars

In regard to the turning problems I had similar issues. I ended up pulling the entire thing apart and found a bad solder joint on one of the servo wire. The wire had not come loose but the solder joint was cold. I touched up all the joints and have had no problems since. Attached is a pic showing the servo wires.

yes, consistency of preformance is a big issue. hopefully somthing we can eliminate in round 2. i have noticed that pretty much all of my pre-production xmods have had bad solders and its not very comforting to hear that the final product also has the same issue. i think im just gonna pull to get new samples until i get a car that has high preformance. that will be my racing baby...

btw, nuero, i helped design that 10x20 track. we made it out of pvc on my driveway.

for some reason, my stock motor skyline was alot faster than any of the stage2 motors i have tried. it made no sense at all... like my stock motor would smoke anyones i know. im not worried now tho, as i got other problems such as melting differentials and shattered cups..
