water dipped Sb?

I read on Xmodworld that a water dipped sb is fast.... is this true?

I tried the water break-in a couple of times, and for the most part, the results were very favorable. I used it on a couple of stage 1 motors.

can i dip my RS motor?

how would it be done?

this was taking from minizworld.com so don't give me all the credit...

Breaking in a new motor (or new brushes)

Right then :-) Get yourself a glass of water, an aaa battery box with two batteries in it, some sticky tape, a little bearing oil, and some motor spray.

Submerge the motor in the water, and tape the wires to the side of the glass so that the motor is freely suspended, not touching the sides. Connect the motor to the battery box such that it spins the same way that it will in the mini Z. Leave it running for 5 minutes or so (the water usually turns dark gray), remove the power, take the motor out of the water, spray liberally with motor spray, leave to dry for 20 minutes, oil the bearings, then put it in your Z - eh Viola! :-)

Why use water? It provides a load whilst running in, it removes air, so prevents a lot of the arcing between the comm and brushes, and finally it keeps the motor cool under load.

Generally, with the water method, most people run in their motors at about half their normal running voltage - So, we run our with four AAAs normally, so run it in with 2 AAAs.

This tip provided by Rob D. in the UK.

This will make a noticeable difference in your engine. I usually break it in for at least 10 minutes and pull it out of the water once or twice during the 10. Most lubricants will work well when you lube it at the end. The higher quality the lube the better, I use slick 50.

aperson 01-31-2004 08:42 AM

slick 50 1 lube?

spitty12 01-31-2004 12:56 PM

That's the stuff. Part of its fuction is to displace water in the motor and the other is to lubricate.

kasper01001 02-01-2004 01:58 PM

so lemme see, all i got to do is let the motor run in a glass of water for like...15mins then lubricate it with something? can i use WD-40? o yea how much of the motor do i dip in it? the whole thing or half of it? same with the lubrication whole or half?

spitty12 02-01-2004 03:26 PM

Completely submerge it, WD40 is good. Pull it out once or twice during the 15 and then spray the inside of the motor down using the ports on the plastic end.

kasper01001 02-01-2004 04:43 PM

so i'm spraying the inside right, from the back? not the exterior

spitty12 02-01-2004 11:16 PM

Right, inside only, wipe off the out side when done

kasper01001 02-02-2004 12:29 AM

ok last question (hopefully) what should i expect performance wise more speed, torque, or both?

aperson 02-02-2004 08:15 AM

both along with it being quieter

kasper01001 02-02-2004 08:52 AM

 :D sweeet!!! thanks!!!!

Silent_NightR34 02-02-2004 04:24 PM
