5th Cell Pros and Cons

Im thinking about doing the 5th cell mod. I don't want to mess my car up at all, except for the one wire i have to snip. What are the pros and cons of this mod? Will it do anything bad at all to my Xmod?

The electronics should be fine. Some people have had problems with the 5th cell and running a light kit. I ran my skyline with a 6 cells (ic-3s) and had no problems. I did not use my light kit though. I don't have it rigged like that now. The gain in weight was too big a trade off. It really affects the car's handling.

Is the speed any better at all?
Light kit frying was the only problem running a fifth cell?

Yes, that and the most common problem is leaving your batteries in the car while you're doing the 5th cell mod. Another prob is if your antenna wire touches say the heatsink, for example. That equals shorting out.

there is no light frying problem, people probalby just left the batteries in and the xmod on while doing this mod. they deserve fried lights if they didn't take the precaution of at least turning the xmod off

6th cell mod

I went for broke skipped the 5th cell and went for 6 bc has the pics diagrams everything. DO NOT USE THE LIGHT KIT. REMOVE BATTS BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY MODS. My supra screams but looks terribly stock i hope some unsuspecting xmodder wants to race this is wicked fast......

why not use the light kit? i did on mine when i did 6 cell and it was fine, not brighter but didn't fry either

Kubrel 01-20-2004 10:57 PM

light kit

I don't think I have read a post that says it was safe. The posts I have found that people have wrote say the car has smoked using the light kit and the 6th cell. I do not wan to take a chance I will use the light kit on another car not me speed car..

light kit 2

The only thing I can think of is the leds aren't capable of handling the voltage plus why would you want to put something in that drains power to your engine and uses up run time?

Kubrel 01-20-2004 11:01 PM

still learning

I am still learning just like the others and am having a good time. I appreiate everybody posting stuff that works.

TypeZer0 01-20-2004 11:14 PM

lol, led's use up about 20 mA each so 80mA of current drain on the battery aint too bad. the two transistors in the command logic board should use minimal energy

sry, but I have to ask

can someone show me the 5th cell upgrade tutorial if there is one? I have little knowledge in electronics, and as you can see, im a newbie, and I dont want to fry anything in an attempt to try it by myself.

ok i added a 5th cell to my civic1 and i was runing it before a race and it started to stuter so i did a quick switch to civic2 and it worked ine well just recently civic2 started to stuter when it gets about 5' away from me i took aprart civic1 and those green things where the antena wire is conected one had a black spot on it so i was wondering if this has happend to anyone and if so did u fix it or trash it
