Suspension Bars?
 

I got the Fast & Furious upgrade with 3 new suspension bars. Visually, the only difference I can see is the number of holes drilled into them. How do I know which is which? Maybe I should use the one with 3 holes drilled out because it will be the lightest! ;)

The more holes there are, the 'softer' (less tension) the suspension is.

Does it make a difference?
 

Have you noticed a difference between them? I'm hesitant to swap them out for fear of breaking the plastic. That is not the best design!

Others claim that the three hole suspension is the best suspension other than a spring suspension mod, I however can not see any difference. Also when I removed the original suspension it shot up with a cartoonish "Fwung" sound and I only found it because I heard where it landed on a wooden floor. As long as you have a few replacement suspensions I guess its worth the trouble to install.

I almost broke my chassis clips that hold the sway bar in on my ZZ. I'm not gonna touch that damn thing again until I just pull it off entirely to replace it with spring suspension.

On a side note it's been stated that ZZ sway bars aren't as flexy as Bit sway bars. I've been looking at mine and (someone correct me if I'm wrong) but I think there is a small difference in the _angle_ of the different bars. If I set all of my sway bars on the table upside down I noticed that the 3 hole ones stick up farther than the others.

Perhaps this different angle also puts different tension on the suspension?

In any case I'm still gonna do the spring mod later and get rid of these things...

With the weight of a ZZ being as light as it is, I really don't think the different sway bars have any appreciable diference in springyness.

Now something I have done with them is to bend them so that there is less play in the suspension. On a super smooth flat surface, I think bending all teh play out of the suspension entirely actually helps.

If there are any bumps in your track, I think a little play in the suspension helps keep those front tires on the surface.

But I don't think the sway bar provides much in the way of actual shock absorption.

try running without any bars in and you will see what they are for. they help with steering substantially. i run with the 3 holed one(my first reasoning for that was weight) but then i realized that it makes the steering nicer.

The angle is different on each. the holes are for ID purposes. the greater angle lets the car lean over more into the turn, Supposedly this absorbes some of the energy of the turn and helps prevent, sliding and flipping.

I change susp. bars based on speed and track layout.

3 holed tighter turns but a track with wide turns a 2 holed or stock helps out with drifting. But again motor/gear combos have an effect of which better for any givin layout.

As for fly offs I seem to be able to change fine.
The trick I use is to position the screwdriver towards the rear of the susp. place a finger over the bar and twist the screwdriver counterclockwise and pop, its off.
For putting a diffrent one back on put the front tab on the susp. in first and press firmly on the rear tab.
