**RANT** Crappy Hobby Shops

I don't know about you guys, but I live in a city of over 2 million people with about 40 hobby shops and THEY ALL SUCK!!!! Any time I go to get parts for anything (X-mods in this case) they either don't stock it or don't have it in stock. Can you friggin' believe that only 1 out of 40 hobby shops carry Mini-Z parts, so any motors, tires, wheels etc....I have to order by net or mail. Can you also believe that out of 40 shops the only 180 motor any one carries is the stock RS4 or the team Orion!!! Can you believe that the friggin' mail order/net places want $6 to ship a GPM 180 motor that weighs less than an ounce??? ARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!! Please feel free to post your frustations here as well!! I hope I'm not alone in smashing my head into a brick wall over not being able to get stuff....

My local Hobbytown isn't too bad, but it seems like the most interesting stuff needs to be mail ordered.

Where do you live?

I havnt went looking for specific things lately but I can get most anything around here.

You think you have it bad, there are only 2 real RC hobby shops here, one doesn't carry any stock at all, the other charges 1.5 times the cost and mainly carry 1/10 and up stuff. The only decent place in Va. is down in Va. Beach about 1.5 hours away.

Bahahaha, you think that's bad? My hobby shop, half the store is miniatures, the other half is car models with some paint mixed in...

RedRSX 01-02-2004 04:11 PM

yea...my local hobbytown is pretty good about stocking stuff for all kinds of RCs. They dont have a ton of stuff for mini-z but they definetley have the stuff most people want. Wheels, lock nuts, bodys, light sets, and anything you want from kyosho that isnt there, they will order it and usually have it in 2-3 days...the you just go and pick it up:)

Cincinnati

I live in Cincinnati and my Hobbytown doesn't have jack unless it's 1/12 or bigger. The other hobby shops just deal in the gassers and airplanes....They don't even offer to order stuff and I know one of the co-owners!!!! The Hobbytown here has a ton of hot wheels and model kits and a whole bunch of garbage like Yuh-Gi-Oh, pokemon, d&d etc.....

well down here in chicago theirs 3 hobby stores, none of them sell or order pinion pullers, the first hobby store sells miniT parts... but their over priced, the second is some private store that has littlw trains but the guys an a55 and dosnet deserve my business, and finally theirs hobbytown, no xmod, or miniz parts but everthing for regular and micro rs4's, and their smart and like to help (i was their for 20 minutes while the guy and i picked out paints) and greatest of all they hold 1/24 and bigger races every friday at 6 (register by 5) starting in march and ending in september...

hey b.c. why did you change your icon?

I to have the same problem. Overpriced LHS with limited stock. I have to drive an hour to 2 hours just to race or buy parts. I have had good luck with the net. As far as shipping you have to buy more than one item to get the benefit of the shipping cost. Plus I haven't paid tax yet. I just made a 140 usd order from rc mart and didn't pay tax. I live in CA too. After shipping and other charge I paid only a couple dollars extra per item. Here's an example. I bought a Megatech diff. for my wifes clk, cost-39.99 w/o tax. I bought a GPM from rc-mart and paid 22.00 with 18.99 w/o shipping. I paid a total of 35 usd in extra charges tacked on to my 106 bucks in parts. Was it worth it???? Oh yeah very, no traffic, no gas, no high prices, no idiot salesman and I get what I want, not what they have. Patience is a virtue when ordering online. You didn't have it before will it bother you to wait a couple more weeks. Most of all.........I JUST WANNA RACE!!!!!!!!!!!No tracks for miles. I told my wife when I retire from the Navy I am opening a mini-z hobby shop with a huge track. Only 12 more years to go LOL.

well, my lhs is not that bad. in fact they are very good! they are small , but one whole side is devoted to models, the back and another wall is devoted to rc, and the rest is rockets and stuff. i am really lucky because it is the only good hobby shop within a hours drive(and i dont drive, so that makes it harder). all the stuff is resonably priced. the only problem is that i cant find any tracks near me. i am talking about 1/10 and 1/28 and all the rest! my only relife is that when i start driving then i will be able to drive to one.

Ok first of all...no place is going to sell xmods part beside RS. xmods are strictly RS things and RS isnt gonna let other companies take money from it

HA! you all think you have it bad try living so far away from an actual RC shop that you can only get there once a year.
