pinion

im gonna mod a stage 1 motor but what methods do you guys use to get the pinion on and off
im not gonna spend any money because i dont have that much
lets hear what you guys have got

The BEST method is to break down and purchase a pinion puller. With out it you run the risk of doing perminate damage to the motor.

a quick search on "remove pinion" produced a number of threads, including this one: http://tinyrc.com/forums/showthread....=pinion+remove

Sometimes the only tool for the job, is the right tool for the job.

i would agree with the pinion puller. but if you live so far away from a hobby shop that you get there once a year i would pickup a butane torch and some pliers. heat it up and pull it off.

If you live too far away, then order it online. Several people have tried the Heat method and no one has yet to say it worked. Most people have ruined their motors by getting it too hot.

i got it to work, but if u do it more than five time the pinion is so soft that it WILL MELT and all ur left with is a puddle of brass :(
P. s. does any one have a blue motor they are willing to sell

TypeZer0 12-15-2003 08:40 AM

has anyone tried to warm it up with a soldering iron or is that nto enough heat?

So would you reccomend the pinion puller for someone who is tinkering?

HEAT USING TORCH NOT A LIGHTER if anybody was wondering because i messed up my motor so anybody trying to take it off u need a pinion puller... if you dont have and ill kno cause u gonna come crying like me when u mess up your motor and wanna just break the whole thing so i second everyones opinion bout getting it

what is all this talk about pinon pulling whats it do, why do you do it, how do you do it... i'm sooo confused.

People are pulling the stock pinion gears off their motors in order to use them on non-Radio Shack motors. That's the whole reason behind it.
