Spinbrush Motors Work!

I did the spinbrush mod yesterday, and I am very pleased with the results. I can do real drifts, and if the tires didn't spin so much it would probably be faster than a S2, but its about 3 times louder. Torque is amazing, and the motor doesn't seem to get hot (maybe because it was from a consumer's toothbrush :D )
To anyone who has and Xmod, spinbrush, extra Xmod motor (for wires), soldering iron, skills to solder, and either a pinion puller or a high-temperature flame of some kind (to get the pinion off of the Xmod motor, it's glued on), this is a worthwhile mod to try.

Sounds good. I love cheap, simple, Do-It-Yourself projects. I heard you can use the XMODS motor endbell, to get those better brushes.

i have an xmod, a spin brush, an xtra xmod motor, soldering iron, soldering skills, but no pinion puller!! i never heard of those. i need one really bad. i wanna try out this mod.

Awsome, i read your post and took apart an old BRAUN toothbrush...
I was very excited but the moter was the same shape but it is a Tad bit longer than the Xmod Motors. Is this the same with the spin brush?
or did you have to mod it a little?

thanks!~

That motor is likely a 180-size motor. The spinbrush is a normal 130-size, and is a direct fit.

got a couple of them all ready to go for soldering. can't wait to see the crazy speed!

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, but our internet was screwing up (stupid dial-up).

YOu don't need a pinion puller, just light a match, and hold the pinion in the flame. The brass expands, the steel doesn't as much, so it slips off. If you're quick you can get it on the spinbrush motor's endbell before it shrinks again.

hay. do i have to spread the flame evenly through the whole pinion? or can i just hold the flame under it? and will it damage the original pinion's motor? what if the motor catches on fire and explodes in my face?

maikeru 12-06-2003 05:21 PM

first off it's an electric motor it won't explode in your face, if it's not powered by anything and jsut leave it under the flame metal spreads heat evenly

Daazndood 12-06-2003 07:10 PM

oh, thanks. how come electrical wont blow up in my face.

maikeru 12-06-2003 07:52 PM

because your are not supplying any power to the motor when you do it.

Daazndood 12-06-2003 09:26 PM

hay, how long am i supposed to hold the flame under it? i use one of those lighter thingies. are we talking about hours? i held it for like a half min and it didnt work.

It might take a few minutes. Try holding the pinion with pliers and gently pulling at it while it heats up.
