New Project: Convertible Integra
 

All right, here's project #2. Why a convertible? Because I didn't have any other choice. After I cut it down, the roof ended up looking really bad. Way too disproportinate. So I just hacked the whole thing off. Now, here's where I need your help. How do I cover the inside? The real problem is the plug for the motor, thats the only part that sticks up enough to be a problem. Has anyone tried replacing it with some connectors? If I can do that, hopefully I can cram those under a cover and get this thing done. It's just another Revell kit like my GTI, except this one came with 4 sets of rims. Let me know what you think. how's u get crome rims?

Well thanks. I just installed lights in it so now I really need to come up with a way to cover it. The rims came with the body. IT had 3 sets of chrome rims and a set of gunmetal rims.
I'm about to go out of town so I'll post more pics when I get back.

It's lookin' good so far. One possible option for the motor is to hack the connectors completely. If you want to do future upgrades, though, you would have to de-solder the bare wires to replace/upgrade the motor or w/e. If it were me, I would just banish the connectors and solder the bare wires. I already have the Stage 2 in mine, but I dunno about yours. If you're going to keep the motor, do the soldering. It looks like you should open enough space up for a piece of styrene (or perhaps plexiglass - protected, but show-off?). I'll be looking forward to seeing it all lit up and covered up. I've been going back and forth on a 96 Corvette GS convertible. If I decide to do it, it'll be a while from now. (Three projects at once in my little spare time is more than enough ;) ).

Thanks for the suggestions MidWestRacer. I agree, I think hardwiring the motor would be easier than trying to fit connectors in with everything else. I lost some space when I installed the lights. I like the plexi glass idea, but I'm not sure if I want to try to put seats in it or not. Only time will tell. Thanks again, let's see your corvette.

looks good!! do you have a front tab?? that is the why my s-2000 keep breaking.(now i am paying for it :( ) if you dont put one in then the wheel wells will start to crack and practially every other thing on the frount:(

OK, I just remembered something ... my 96 Corvette GS was mutilated by little kids that mom babysits years ago ... I'll have to go w/ the 2000 Corvette "Coupe" instead ... It's 1/24 and I chopped the top a long time ago. I still have it fully assembled other than the top, so I could probably just chop the seats where the panel would be and have lil seats that stick up (it would pretty much just be the headrest portion, but it would look great from the side/profile view ;) ). Even though it's 1/24 (I think, anyway), it's real small, so I'll probably be able to put it onto an XMod chassis instead of having to make a chassis for that car, too. I'm also thinking of eventually making either of these police cars: a Crown Vic P71 or Impala 9C1 (The P71 and 9C1 are the Police de-marcations or codes making the vehicle a real cop car). I found an alternating light diagram on here, so I'd make one of those, and have it running a pair of white LED's in the headlights, blue and red pair on: roof, windshield, rear window, possibly red LED's in the back door windows, as well as a pair of red and a pair of white LED's in the taillights/back-up lights (respectively). The ideas are still churning in my head, so I dunno just yet. If you look on my Porsche GT-1 Evo (Mods & Projects), you can see pics of the Porsche race car, the Humvee I'm turning into Cop-Style, and my 'lightly' modded Skyline (AWD, Lights, black mirrors, body kit, hood, stock spoiler [I like that one most ... I hate rice-wings], Stage 2 10-tooth I think, and one of the "XMod" sticker/logos on the roof.) Other than all that crap, it's stock.

Thanks guys! As far as a front tab, I don't. This body is mostly for show. Right now it's held on by a peg in the front that sits right on the tab, velcro on the sides and a similar set up in the back as the front. Basically it sits on the chassis snugly and is held tight with velcro. It's actually suprisingly secure.
Go on MidWestRacer! We need more poeple working on custom bodies. Don't get me wrong, the stock bodies are sick but life is all about being original. Grab a model kit and start chopping. If you screw up, get another and try again. Both kits I got at Walmart for like 10 bucks. Well worth it for a project. Especially the integra, I would have paid 10 bucks for the 4 sets of rims alone.

OK, ladies and gentlemen. I just did a test-fit of the 2000 Corvette (1/24) and it does not fit at all. I'm thinking that chopping the body would require far too much work to really make it worth the time. I'll see how some of my other bodies fit right now:

All are 1/24 or (possibly) 1/25:
2000 Corvette: Major wheelbase adjustment
1968 El Camino: Major wheelbase adjustment
1980's Monte Carlo: Major wheelbase adjustment
Another muscle car (can't remember year/model): Major wheelbase adjustment

The easiest fit of those would be the El Camino b/c you could essentially just make new rear wheel wells and make a tonneau-type cover over the back. I'll have to look at my store (Jewel-Osco), Wal-Mart and Target to find some cheap models. I've been buying models from the LHS next to Jewel, but $20 just to use the body is WAY too much. (Like the GT-1)
