please explain motors

I was just to lazy to see if some has done the thread, can u please explain everything about motors? if u have a link to something please send it, and by motors i mean Xmod motors

aperson 11-20-2003 08:43 AM

Xmod motors are pretty much plain electric motors that belong in a Radio controlled vehicle. sorry i dont have any links

MaxxThrasher 11-20-2003 09:20 AM

Please be more specific.

Define "Explain". I could write a 15 page report on how electric motors work, how they are made, what they are made out of and more specificly what the Xmod motors do for the Xmods, how and why, the specs of the availible motors, other motors that will work in a Xmod, RPMs, gearing and so on.

What exatly would you like to know???

I mean by, wat each motor is good for, sry bout the miscomunication

kasper01001 11-20-2003 11:37 PM

O yea wats da man dif from a stage 2 drift from a top speed motor? I should try it myself, but unfortunatly my car's part problem hasn't been fixed so i can't let it go until I have those parts

Rotary Freak 11-20-2003 11:44 PM

Drift has the largest ammount of torque. Its the best if you have AWD, Top Speed..well..I didin't particularly enjoy the Top Speed engine, it didin't thrill me, the only way I could get it to haul was with the car removed from the chassis, otherwise, its good for just..well..driving. (*NOTE* I do not know how Top Speed performs with RWD. Only AWD, and I simply mean, I was happier with the drift engine.)

kasper01001 11-21-2003 12:07 AM

were u able to drift with da drift engine on AWD?

MaxxThrasher:
How 'bout that list of other better motors that will work in an Xmod

kasper01001 11-21-2003 06:24 PM

huh?

Rotary Freak 11-21-2003 10:19 PM

I have not been able to do an AWD drift, I can powerslide, but that is not true drifting. It may be due to the conditions I drive on (tarmac paved public road, alot of uneven parts and bumps.) they are not the best in the world for such a thing. Once I get a smoother road to race on, I'll get back to you.

i have a skyline [check it in my thread"postyour car n parts"]n i can do powerslides with rwd i cant drift cuz the tire on the inside keep spinning freely. i can take out my front suspension n still have no tire scuffs on the fender.

kasper01001 11-22-2003 02:14 AM

anyways back to da thread, can some people help me out? wats a good all round engine? don't go by wat it says on paper, I need info from experiance

MaxxThrasher 11-23-2003 05:52 PM

Kasper01001, again your being vague. You want a good all around motor, but that would all depend on the application.

How is your car being driven?

There is not a great amount of difference in the motor itself as much as there is in the gearing you choose.

Take for instance if you are driving on an oval track with long straight aways and we use for example the motors available for the Xmods. The stage 2 motor with 11T gear would work very well. On the other hand if you are driving a road course with short straights and many turns more torque would be in order. Either stage 1 or 2 motor will work, but more importantly a lower gear like the 8 or 9 tooth would be ideal.

Bottom line...gearing is the key to what will work best for you depending on how you drive your car. A lower gear will get you out of corners and down the straights faster, but will top out and would not be good for long straights. Higher gears will get you down the straights very quickly, but take off from a dead stop or out of corners will be slower.

As far as motors that will work in Xmods, any motor that will fit in a Mini Z or other 1/24 scale RC will more then likely fit in the Xmod. It will require some soldering of wires, but will work just the same. Also NML has motors available, but if you ask me they're just modified Xmod or Mini Z motors. I've even found that motors out of appliances will work if you know the rpm range of them and the outside dementions are the same. I put a motor from an old blender in mine. It had a quicker top speed then the stage 2, but almost no torque.

It would benifit you well if you weren't so lazy and would use the search button. One could learn much from the information found.

Oooo thanx

It might be my old 1/12 scale history, but if I cannot pull some kind of vulgar display of power with my car, it's not powerful enough. Back when I did bat char-g, it had to be able to pop wheelies one a single cell. Here, I have to be able to execute a dry pavement drift at will. Still i am having issues with either lack of torque (my current gearing), or lack of speed (the drift gearing for my motor). My old 1/12th car was known for being able to flip itself over if you get a bit too zealous with the throttle...that and the ability to annoy the neighbors with this flame red blur of an r/c car :D

Once I get back to working on my car, it WILL geta major overhaul in the power category. Maybe something really exotic, maybe somthing so simple, it seems silly. Who knows. Either way I need about a good 30-40% more torque without any speed sacrifice compared to the car's current layout. Once that is done, all will be well, and the little cute blackmarks I leave on my desk with my car will grow to rather admirable stripes at that time :)
