New Radio Hack car!? (Non-ZZ, sorry!)

Went in looking for stuff I could build a part I needed for a project. Like always, didn't have the electronic component I needed. (ooh HUGE shock there...)

But while I went to drool at the wall with ZZ, ZZSE, and XMods I discovered a new item!!

IR Pen Racers. Or something similar named. Anyway, looked like they have steering & throttle. (Wickedly cheap DigiQ clone?) $10. The dude said that they JUST got them in. It looked like the only ones not in the display box were the ones the employees held back. I just checked their site, and they don't have it listed yet as a product. They were up by the cash registers.

I only had $15 on me and still needed gas for my real ride, so I didn't pick one up. So, next week I'll let you know...

Just got one.

There's only one reason I got it. Sheer Size. It makes even my tiny iRacer look massive.

Cool things about this car:

1) IT'S SO EFFING TINY
2) The "pen cap" turns into 3 cones.

drawbacks:

1) Forward and back. that's it. It turns in reverse. Reminds me of those old $9 nikko's from the 80's.

2) Not rechargeable. Button cells in the controller, a button cell in the car.

Not worth it, save the fact that it's so tiny. What the hell are you gonna do with 3 cones and a car that only turns in reverse? Run a Slalom???

BTW: Cat# 60-1241 - Micro I/R Hot Rod

They're modeled roughly after a Mitsu Lancer Evo.

Yea I saw it at radioshack too. I saw it when I was buying rechargable batteries.

Some pics:

Compare size to my ZZSE Audi TT. Also shown: Two of the 3 "cones" from the pen cap, Controller and all controls (On/Off Switch, Channel Switch, FW and Rev buttons). The I/R Hot Rod is sitting on a 50 Cent Piece.

Well, it's a superdeform... hard to judge scale...

Length:
Real EVO: 4450mm
Model: 35mm

Scale Length: about 1:127

Width:
Real: 1770mm
Model: 23mm

Scale Width: about 1:77

I Suppose I'd just call it about 1:100 scale.

viperkilla 11-09-2003 08:21 AM

Wow thats small, and I thought a microsizer was small.

frizzen 11-09-2003 08:54 PM

The ones at my Radio Hack were actually a stationwagon body, not a notchback sedan kinda like a lancer.

Thank you for the pics ax0n. Other than body, it's the exact same thing I was talking about!

But, you're saying it's not worth it other than for the fact it's a *tiny* little vehicle, the pen looks kinda cool, and it's an IR rc?

I was going to get my dad one of them for christmas. I'm not so sure now...

I dunno, the more I play with it, the more I like it.

It's quite literally just about the size of a micro machines car, save how tall it is. Micro machines were usually very well scaled with a minimum amount of "deform" i.e. they were usually scaled close to the same on all three dimensions. most of them were a little too wide for their scale if anything, but never too tall, like these are.

And yes, They are IR R/C. It's extremely fast for it's scale, but nowhere near as fast as even a stock ZZ. Think ZZ with the old old original "handling" motor (1.0).

If you go forward then slam into reverse on the right surface, she does mad 180's!!!
