Ball Differential
 

ok i bought my AWD kit last night put it in it worked great took the ball differential apart to see how it worked and i lost one of the balls. will this hurt my performance or destroy the differential in any way? any help would be appreciated

i dont think it will destroy it ("think")..but try it anyways...

its been working so far tonight. what if i put the stock differential back in what'll that do

You can put the stock diff back in and it won't hurt anything. I'm considering doing the same thing because I think the stock one is better than the ball diff anyway. Mine doesn't transfer any power to the wheels when changing from forward to reverse suddenly.

exactly. the ball diff also acts as a sort of clutch. but the regular gear differential is too loose and if one wheel loses grip all of the power will be transferred to that wheel. thats why the ball diff is so hard

you could probably find the right size ball at the LHS - i dont know how big they are.

the ball diff makes my car push in the turns - it almost 'locks' the rear wheels together - it will make the car harder to drive but should turn in faster lap times with practice - the gear diff would be easier to drive, no accidental spinouts, better turning radius - but that applies to 1/10 sedans where you can adjust the ball diff correctly - i dont think mines correct, even after adjusting the screws - its either too tight or too loose

i like the ball diff because it doesnt unload so i can get over small bumps (like the metal strips between carpet and tile floors in most homes) and it almost acts like an e-brake when i hit the brakes and turn
