Adjusting rear differential (AWD Only)
 

Ok guys, I know some of you have been wondering if this could be done, and I seem to have found it. If you have the AWD upgrade and want to adjust your rear differential, here's how. You'll notice that on the diff there are 3 screws. You can loosen or tighten these to adjust the lockup of your diff. You can set it loose for tighter turns or tight for better straight-line stability. I have mine set tight because the track my brother and I have in the basement has 3 long straightaways. If you had a course with tight turns you would want to loosen it up a bit. Just remember you can still strip these screw holes out if you do it too tight, and if you do it too loose it might fall apart while you're driving.

you coudl use that thread lock stuff to keep the screws in place if you do it loose so it wont' fall apart on the track

thread lock work on plastic? i wondered about adjusting the diff - i noticed my rear is tighter than the front - looks like some adjustment is in the works

The rear is supposed to be stiffer than the front. It's a limited-slip differential in the rear, and the front is completely open.

no...in 1:10th scale cars the front driff is tighter then the back and it helps out alot...the back diff is should not so hard and the front so easy...you can just swap them for better handling...

These aren't 1/10th scale cars. These are 1/24th scale cars. The dynamics are quite different. While braking or accelerating with these, the force seems to be biased towards the rear, so you need the LSD there or you'll spin out. With the 1/10th scale cars, they purposely put the braking/accelerating force towards the front, so having an LSD there would be very helpful.

i like the way mine handles - got foam tires 4.0 bar blue springs (hard) in the front and yellow (medium) in the rear - it cuts some corners hardcore on my friends carpet

Just how stiff is the rear diff supposed to be. After I installed mine, it was so stiff that I couldn't even get the thing to slip. I tried loosening the screws to adjust the diff to get it to slip, but it only worked on one wheel. When I turned the rear left wheel (looking at the car from the rear), the right rear wheel would turn in the opposite direction. But if I turned the right rear wheel, the left rear wheel would just sit there.

Your diff is doing the same thing mine is doing now. It's not good. I think I'm gonna have to return my awd kit :(

my car did the same thing. i took apart the entire rear assembly and put it back together. works fine now.

I've done that a few times now and it hasn't helped.

I never really thought about tightening or loosening the screws for diff adjustment I thought I'd just add thicker or thinner grease depending on how I wanted it to react.(but thats just me)
