1/24 model bodies
 

Ok, as the little civic Xmod on the xmodrc.com site is just a revell 1:28 model kit. so im wondering (since i dont have my xmod yet) what are the bodies being held on by? is it like the little zipzap clones with a tab in the front and oen in the back. if so. how hard would it be to mod a bodie to fit?

theres a tab in front and a clip in back, not quite like the zip zaps...

so could you modify the body of a 1/24 model kit to fit on a xmod? even if you had to fab some mounts

LOL my civic is hanging on for dear life, so far i haven't really put anything on it except for tape to keep the body on. Usually it will fly off.

Depends on how good you are with a model.
The rear clip is screwed into the body on the stock xmods, so you could make a post inside your 1/24 or 1/25th scale car to hold the clip, and then make annother piece in the front that would slide over the tab. Most good hobby shops sell sheet styreene which is the same plastic all models are made from. You could just use regular model glue and put it all together.
If you want to go the RC route, make a body pin out of plastic, and attach it to the chassis, have it stick out the body and clip it with an R-pin.
Velcro is also annother good idea- you would have to make a bracket or 2 on the chassis that would just hold the velcro in the right spot, and when you need to take it off, it's not a hassle like tape. You'd be suprised how much a few square inches of velcro will hold.
They make velcro with an adhesive back, and if you make an adjustable bracket, you could put on several different bodies.
(not all at once tho)

The problem I've notices is that a lot of the scale plastic models are a little long and skinny- so, look for short wide cars like corvettes, ferraris and ones like that. Muscle cars may be a little long.

no they are not like the zipzaps thre is a clip in the back and a tab in the front and you slip the tab in the front and than push in the clip in the back till it clicks than there is like a safty (thing that keeps the clip in place)slide that to the left and your body is on.:D

I'm actually working on a model body right now. I was inspired by rogotiz3, that civic is sick! I had a VW GTI model laying around. I ended up having to cut out 1/2 inch out of the body to get the wheel wells to line up. Still a work in progress but hopefully with enought sanding I can make it work. As far as attaching it, I was thinking about ripping out he front slot from the stock body kit and trying to get that into the model body. No real sure if it will work, but you never know.

Damn i got to see some pictures of that! Oh yeah i'm thinking of getting an american muscle!!!!!!! with a functional hood scoop. This xmod just inspires people to XTREMELY MOD IT!

i found a mustang model i never finnished, i'm thinking of triing it out but its about an inch to long and would be a pain to cut to size and make the car flow right

That's my other project... I've got a Corvette model that I'm adapting to work with the XMods chassis. It's going to be a bit of work, and since the model is 1/25th, it won't be perfect . With the chassis at the longest wheelbase setting, it won't rub, but the wheelbase should really be about 1/8th of an inch longer. But it will look good, and I will be the only one around with a 'Vette... I will also be adapting over the C5R body from the MiniZ.

I saw a Mini Cooper model at the shop today, so that might be another one I try...

I really want to find a GT40, but I'm afraid it will be too low for the chassis and won't sit down like it should.

I really wish these things were 1/24th instead of 1/28th, it would open the body choices up tremendously...
