Recommended Spray Paint for Bodies?
 

Hi, I'm new to painting bodies and I plan to paint my xmod. Could anyone recommend a good spray paint brand and where you can purchase it? Thanks!

Go check your LHS. I think anything except lexan paint would work well.

If you're using cans of spray paint and not using an airbrush, I would go to an auto supply store and try Plasti-Kote.

I have an airbrush myself and use Modelmaster and Boyd's (both made by Testors), but I've seen the best paintjobs done with Plasti-Kote.

Do the windows come out at all or do you have to tape them off?

I have had awesome results using Tamiya spray cans on my Zips. I have yet to try it on an Xmod, but I will soon. I would assume I'll get the same results.

The windows do not come out. They are painted black, so you can either mask them off or not, and then just repaint them black if you wish.

Thanks everybody! Yea I was also thinking of Tamiya Paint but everywhere I read it said paint inside the body so I started to assume it wasn't for the outside.

When I spray paint I use testors spray paint.

lexan paint is basicly plastic paint...it should work extremely well with this..

I've used it on most of my custom Zips and it turns out really nice on the outside. It goes on smooth and glossy. Top it off with the Tamiya gloss and it will look like glass.

I use pactra. I found out that it don't work to well on a paint over on the xmods. I've gotta strip this body down and repaint it. I've had nothing but good experiences with pactra on bits and zips. I'm figuring that if I had sanded it down a bit more than I did I would have a nice flawless job, I guess it may be my fault and not the paint.:(
I would also second the palsti-kote.

Im hoping the paint pens work good- going to try them on the xmod body tonight

anyone gonna make lexan vacc's for these bodies? They feel way too heavy

Hmm... I'm sort of leaning towards Tamiya now because I've seen Bad Company's Savanna Zip and I haven't seen the other brands on rc's bodies before (If anyone could show me a pic that would be great). Oh and Bad Company which spray paint did you use?

Ask my brother (dragon4450) how well lexan paint works with these bodies. He just screwed up his supra using pactra lexan paint. DO NOT USE LEXAN PAINT ON THESE BODIES.

Did you mean dupli-color? Plasti-kote is a liquid plastic used for coating the handles on tools.

do not blame yourself. i took my car down to the bare plastic and the pactra did not hold for anything. i had also used pactra for a lot of other painting other then r/c stuff and i was disapointed when the paint started to bead up on me.
