ZZ SE MOSFET mods are GO!!!
 

Well after much hard work and experimentation I have successfully mosfet modded a ZipZap SE to have a significant increase in speed and torque as well.
The stock ZZ SE with a red 21.5 motor and blue (12:1) gears trundles along at a pitiful 4.5km/h (about 3mph) which is a real yawn.
I delved in the the driving/switching circuits and came up with a way to triple the driving speed of the car, increase the torque and keep all the proportionality of the control, both in speed and steering.
It now loves the high speed motors and the tall gears.
If you put in a purple 3.4 'turbo' motor, and the red gears (8.25:1) it will now scream along at around 13 km/h (around 8.5 mph) with full speed control in a smooth range from 5 to 13 km/h (3 to 8.5 mph).
It takes the best corners, with the propo control it will turn wide or sharp, but all the time you are in total control.
It is kinda strange to have such good control of these tiny cars at these speeds, but hey I'm not complaining.

I am once again offering to do these mode for people to their cars. In short, you send me your car, I mod it, test it, and send it straight back to you. All the info is on my website, including prices etc, (have a good look around), then email me and we can get things happening from there.

I got the first mosfet modified SE back from micro_Amps today.

Two words AWE SOME!

I first tried it with the purple motor and blue gears, it had so much torque I could get the back end to come around with the throttle! With the red gears, it still has more torque that stock with blue gears, and the speed is incredible. Torque and speed in reverse is also greatly improved. This is the first SE fast enough to break a body in a crash (that didn't take long). In the past, I usually only broke bodies with dual and tri cell cars. The SE is now the perfect micro rc with this mod! I will be getting this mod on all my SE's, it rocks!

Damn! I wish I had that done but the 30 bucks didn't go into shipping and modding, it went into buying it....dern... *mumbles off into sleep*

Is the steering stutter still there?

The steering 'stutter' is normal in these cars. The electronics is constantly updating the position of the steering so it will always twitch as the motor is running.
Dont worry about it ,its normal.

did you cut the POT wire in those se's? I didn't believe that it would work....but it completely eliminated the twitching....

Ok micro amps dont take this personal or anything but I think that you are a rip off in terms of charging people 30$ without shipping to do a mod that most people if told how to they could be able to do it, the parts are not expensive at all, about 4 of them for 5 dollars, and I dont think it takes hours of work do do this. Maybe 1...maybe. and to charge 25$ without shipping is ridiculouse. Just my opinion...no offense and im not trying to start a fight. Just sayin...:rolleyes:

It's too bad you feel that way. I don't know where you come up with the $25 or $30 figure. I am on my fourth batch of cars sent to micro_Amps, and the mod has always been $20 (unless it's the stage 2). Yes you can purchase the mosfets for like 50 cents a piece, however most places charge shipping or a minimum order, which then makes it not so cheap. It probaly does take about an hour to do the mod, more if it is your first time. Speaking of which, it is not an easy mod that anyone can do, perhaps only 10 to 20 percent of the people on this forum have the skill do this mod. I have done the mod myself to at least 7 or 8 cars, and I still send them off to micro_Amps because it is not easy. He has the proper tools and much experience, and his work is top notch. My 2 cents.

Hey Zapper1, it doesnt really matter what the price is, someone will always say its too expensive. I have said many times before that I'm not in it to make money, but I also wont do it at a loss. So the $20 figure for a fet mod was settled on (about a year ago), and it was left at that.
By the time I round up the parts, answer the email and forum questions, receive the cars, email the owners, test the car, do the mod, test the car again, email the sender again, package up the car, drive to the post office and send it off, how much do you think that is worth? Seriously, its not really worth my time, but I enjoy doing it and the people I do the mod for enjoy the result, and thats why I offer to do it for people.
It costs me about US$5 postage to return the car, and the parts are about $5 as well, (the mod is US$20 inc return post), so if $10 (nett) is too much for you to have me sit down and turn your car into a rocket, no problem.
There are a lot of people with no electronics experience that love these cars and want to go faster, and this is where I come in, to help them enjoy their hobby a bit more.
Doing these mods isnt going to get me a holiday in the tropics, but it might buy me a lunch on fridays for my efforts.
Thats all it is really.

I'm not really fussed about the steering twitching, it lets me know the car is still alive, and I havent cut the pot link yet, but I might give it a go to see how it goes.

ok, i see your point. My bad. I dont know i just thought it didnt seem really worth that much, i mean you could get a new zipzap se for what your charging for the mod with postage. I didnt really figure that much work was into it, sorry for the hassle i put you into.:(

Yeh... i undastand..... I cut the pot in my enfini...and it glitched a lot less... Oh... and yeh.. the fet mod is hard as heck.... you get this feeling when ur modding a small car.... this great feeling when ur done....high off the solder fumes.....burned fingers....and the instant you hit the throttle on ur new car.... you want to do it again..:D

how do u mofset i would like a diagram please

are those double stacked or one stack...if so...how big a difference is there between the two...
