At the moment My brother and I are building a snowmobile. Well actually we are watching the Hurricane Isabel right now. We already have a belt for it.

Snowmobile... sounds cool

about Isabel, i'm in raleigh, nc so we got hit while she was a Category 1-2. No trees have fallen so far but a few large branches have. Okay back to the topic, are you scratchbuilding the chasis/electronics or is it a modified bit. and will it have enough tourque to pull itself over snow?

I think you should get a tank clone that uses radio control and then put two skeeing like things on the front and use them like bit wheels....

I'm nothing when it comes to electronics but wouldn't the exposed circuitry of the micro R/C will freeze under the cold conditions? Also, will the cold temperatures draw out more heat from the rechargable batteries? You might want to devise a "mini-blanket" for the snowmobit.

The snow accumulated on the Snowmobit has a good chance to melt so you should consider waterproofing the Snowmobit to prevent melted ice from finding the circuits.

Doubt that you can build it off a non-proportional micro R/C unless you do not want to worry about turning. Also, all that plowing the Snowmobit is going to make should be answered with more power; more cells and a high torque motor.

just want to tell i dont think he wants to really run it in snow..just the carpet would be good...for me anyways

i wouldnt' worry about the cold.... it may slow the drain on the batt and slow the current but i doubt that.... only thing i'd ever worry about in the snow is the water but on such a low voltage it shouldn't matter too much..... a small amount of waterproofing would probably be good.... picture the ZZ SE's and how they have the black on the pcb... that's all i'd really do just use some silicone and go nuts it should be allright for hte snow... the main thing i'm curious about is how you intend on placeing the track in the middle of the back and then even more would be placeing the motor/gears to power it.... sounds like a bit of a challenge.... hope you succed.:D and don't forget to post pics..... LOTS OF PICS lol

Sounds like good ideas. I am using a motorworks clone electronics and motor. I may want to upgrade to Zip Zaps SE if it doesn't steer well. I will build wheels into the skis for onroad driving.

motorworks motor, yeah I was going to suggest that, its the torque king!

i dont get the whole milk thing but, u could take a lego ski slide a bit knuckel with no wheel into the hole and fill the hole with super glue ull get perfect front ski's. sell ur idea to tomy for $1000000 lol

I think this is a good project I cant wait to see it.

I was wondering if instead of running on snow/carpet/a bit track if it would be able to run on pure white silica sand.
It probaly wouldn't run on it and the sand would get into everything but it would look cool and be more realistic.

A kinda scary thought but it would solve the torque issue...

I was just on microAmps's website and he's now doing stage 2 "stacked" mosfets for $30. If you did that + a laymans tricell + a motorworks motor that car should be able to do wheelies so powerful it'll flip over:D

no laymans are virtually useless there run time is awful your best bet is to get a 3.7v i poly battery and charger off this site
