electronics 101

Ok, now first of all lets make sure you are all up to speed: The electronics in any RC car are generally made up of three seperate boxes.

servo: has gears inside and is for steering

receiver: is what the ESC (speed controller) and servo is pluged into. This unit has a frequency crystal
plugged into it and has an antenna wire. It takes the signal from the remote and translates it into instructions (electrical pulses) for the ESC and servo.

ESC: This stands for electronic speed controller. This box regulates the speed of the motor by cycling the motor on and off very fast or slowley depending on what output speed is desired.

ABC CRP Unit

ABC does sell a combination ESC and receiver called the ABC CRP Unit in one tidy box! As I said (posted) before, I had bad
luck with mine and do NOT suggest it.

The receiver is on 27mhz FM. The spedo does have the capability for brake and reverse BUT I never got it set correctly. The directions I had were in Japanese

With it set the best I could, tapping foward lightly would make the car reverse. :( I never could get the receiver to stop glitching AND when I used my NiMh pack, at full throttle, the car would turn right  . This would also happen when my NiCd was getting worn down too:mad:

After much thought many tries and lots of money spent I have come up with this winning combination of electronics for the DTM-X4 :D:

Servo: Hitech HS-81mg

Receiver: from a Mini-X (this is 27mhz AM)

ESC: Novak Spy
