Convertible Challenger
I'm going to make my challenger into a convertible and want to know the best way to go about it. Ahh5hit, how did you cut your 350z? I wanna keep the paint the way it is and not have to do much touching up. I have a dremel and several sharp pocket knife blades but think a dremel would kinda melt the plastic and make it weird. anyone with suggestions, let me know

I use a dremel with the bit in the pic below. Take off small amounts at a time and remove the shavings as you go. Just take your time. This bit makes nice clean cuts that leave the shavings under your body if you go in the right direction. (Test on a piece of plastic to see.)

so do you mean shave it all away to nothing or cut along the windows and across the top of the windshield so you have the roof and windows left over in a big piece. and what speed did you use? do you think thats best? what kind of plastic replicates the zz body?
|
i just realized that i dont have that bit. do you think that one of the small cylinders with the blades or whatever would work? i think it would if i go slow but im not 100% sure. it seems like it would shave away plastic but not cut right in so id have to start from the antenna hole and work around going down and shaving all the plastic away

I would shave the windows off to the doors and leave only the front windsheild and a little bit of roof above the windsheild. I used the lowest speed on my dremel. You can use any plastic, it should disperse the shavings the same, it's a matter of the direction your bit is turning.

I would not suggest using anything other than a straight cut type of blade. The cylinders are not designed for cutting straight lines.
|
what about one of those sandpapery-like discs that i've used for cutting before, do you think that would work too?
|
If you are talking about the thin ones, then no, they will break apart if you try to cut anything other than a straight line.
|
alright, other than what you use what would you reccommend? i can't get any other bits 4 about a month because i'll be away and busy 4 a while. i have all day tomorrow to work so if you have a good method that takes time i can get up early and get to work

i finished it, will post pics soonn
