you dont need flat surface mount leds. i used a regular 5mm LED and drilled a hole in the bottom of my chassis for it to poke through. it came out pretty darn good:D

i used a blue 3.7v, 20mA, 2600mcd LED from radioshack. and it is powered by a 3v lithium CR2032 battery. here is a shot of where it is mounted.

Underlighting
Would somebody sell me a Zipzap chassis with underlighting like sm2osley's truck?

If you really feel like going all out. You can post 4, 5mm LEDs under each corner of the car. My 350z has that setup plus a small switch in the back window. It takes some fiddling to make the front LEDs clear the wheels when steering in reverse, the end result was worth it because the lights really shine out in front and behind the car.
But I like the single LED under the frame too because you can keep everything in the main piece of the Zip. Mine keeps all so parts in the 350z body. |
Rex, can you post some pics of your car with the 4 leds. one pic of it with leds on and on of the bottom of chassis plz.

Zip-Zap with Ground FX Lig

I posted these in my own thread back in May, but here it is again:
Put Neon Geen Lights on the bottom of my Nissan 350Z Zip-Zap. Wasn't easy to fit but I've Included Pictures for others to try. This is a great Mod for display cars. I mounted my mini-switch in the back window, but you guys could probaly find a better place for it. All the parts stick to the inside of the body with double-sided tape. The battery (a 3-Volt watch battery, Radioshack Lithium 23-268) is clipped in with a standard telephone wireclip. The best thing about this Mod is that it's completely confined to the body, so you can change it to other cars quickly. Thanks guys |
nice job with underglow guys. i was thinking about the same way flatlander did except with 2 LEDs. post pics when done:)

I did this same mod following flatlander's idea with the same results. I picked up a couple of wide angle LED's this weekend that I am going to switch it out with and see if I get a better flow of light from under the car.
