If you mean the word "WHAT" is better The mini-z or mini-x........Well that depends on what you like. Meaning if you "think" you might want a 4WD then the mini-x is for you. It is different then the mini-z in some ways, cost is the final factor.

It depends if you want to bash or race, and what the local scene is like. If you want to bash, the X is better. If you want to race and there is a 1/24 class near you, the X is better. If you want to race and there is only a Mini-Z class near you, the Z would be the choice.

Any idea when you're getting the almost RTR (everything but Tx) Mini-X kits back in tinyrc?

I've seen a few people mention that the Mini-X engine can't really be upgraded? I'm assuming this is due to its 4WD nature and most engines just don't come with the drive shaft emerging from both sides of the motor can (pardon any incorrect terminology).

If one were willing to drop down to 2WD would you be able to use "hotter" (I assume this just means faster and refers to the fact that faster motors run hotter by nature?) motors than the stock Mini-X?

I was mostly curious about the mini-zracer engines since I was browsing those forums and saw that new super motor that they're selling (130BB or whatever). Since the Mini-X supposedly doesn't require a turbo (can anyone explain that one to me?), would I be able to run the 130BB on a Mini-X in 2WD?

Correct; in fact I'm running a Z-130-M-BB in mine right now (no turbo req'd) and it's insanely fast. You are correct RE the 4WD motor, however, we plan on offering our own upgraded motors just like we do for the Mini-Z! :D

Does anyone know of any online resources that would explain why the Mini-Z's electronics package would require a turbo and the Mini-X's does not? Most of the discussion on the message boards pretty much assumes a certain amount of knowledge and experience that I just don't have. I'm still waiting to order the Mini-X kit from tinyrc (do you have an ETA yet tinyrc?) so I can finally start enjoying this sport.

cdog4w, we've got an X coming just for you, it's on its way to us now - other than that, they are on backorder from the manufacturer, we just managed to get this last one for you!

Oh, and to answer your other question - the reason the Z needs a "turbo" is because its built-in ESC cannot handle hot motors. The turbo is an external ESC w/ extra FETs to allow more amps to flow. The X's ESC already handles up to 20A, so there is no need.

Ah that explains a lot. Next question, whats the average amperage on a motor? Do you have numbers for stock mini-x/mini-z, maybe the X-Speed and then how much do the big boys like your 130-M-BB draw?

cdog4w, first of all I got my BS in CS, so there's hope for you yet! Second of all, the stock Mini-Z motor pulls around 0.6-0.7A, while a mod motor might pull more like 2A. You may wonder why the X's ESC is rated at 20A then, and the reason is, that 2A may be driving around at full speed, but it can be much higher if for example you got caught somewhere but didn't release the throttle.

Yea I read about that in some of the mini-zracer forums (locking the gears and holding the throttle). Some bitch if it burns out your ESC. Well I'm totally hyped to get an X, just hope I can talk some friends into it. I've seen a bunch of 1/24 scale models lately (now that my eyes are open for such things) and I was wondering if anyone had successfully turned one of those into a body for an RC?
