is there a way to increase the range on the lap counters

by range i mean the ir detect sensor, sometimes i pass the lap counter about 5 inches away from the sensor and it wont read

If you're using the plastic reflector that came with lap counter the range of the IR is going to be very short. I'm using a small mirror to reflect the IR light and I have almost 2' of range without any problem.
