Whats a ballpark price range on these sweet little rides?

Hey micro,
It depends on what you have to work with. If you have to buy everything because there is nothing on hand; I would say around $200 to $250 bucks. If you have electronics laying around and can make your own parts, you can make them for about $50 to $100 dollars.

What truck do u suggest for a first?

Most people start out with the MAN 5 Ton for their first truck. It is easy to work with and has plenty of room. I am working on my Man 5 ton right now.

is it very hard to make a 3 axel military truck if its only two wheel drive. I like older trucks so i want something like a 2.5 ton with a shop body or a shelter on the back.

I wouldn't recomend a 3 axle truck for your first try. I'm not saying it is out of your reach, but I think it would be best to try a standard 2 axle truck first. If you REEEAAAALLLLYYYYY want to try for it.......there is always people here to help.

squeegee is right, start with a 2 axle, 2 wheel drive truck at first, and like he said use a model truck that have plenty of room for your electronics such as the MAN 5T truck, so working on it is a bit easier... after that you could start working on a smaller and quite challenging project ;), i don't see any problem if you want to build a 3 axle 2 wheel drive truck for on-road use, you could just add another free wheeling axle on your chassis, and as long as it doesn't bind with the trucks body, that's okey.. the only problem i see that may occur to you, is whe you use a 3axle 2wheel drive system on trial course!, you're truck will always be caught on one of the obstacles and your drive wheels will be left spinning helplessly, so if you plan to go on trials and this is your first time to build a 1/87 scale rc truck, a 2 axle 2wheel drive is the best start. just my opinion ;)
