Soldering battery packs
what if you cut off the white thing on the wires and soldered them to the correct battery tabs in the ZipZaps? would it go really nicely? here are the catalog numbers for what I'm talking about:
960-1385, 23-394 enter these numbers at the radioshack website and you'll know what I'm talking about. |
Yes the car would run but I don't see any dimensions of the battery pack. It might be too big to be of much practical use.

It wont fit it is about 30% wider than the battery in a zip zap.

batteries I've found*
Batteriesamerica.com has some nice batteries WITH SOLDER TABS that are actually a little shorter than the stock zip batts. The ones without tabs are the same as stock size though. (I bought 2 of each) It's alot easier to fit the shorter ones in the chassis :) 150 mAh 1.2v NiMh - $2.25 each
Here's the link to the batts (select W/solder tabs) This site has a 7.2v 70mAh button cell pack. $3.90ea./100 or $8.40ea./10 cells are about .64 x .27" though (a little wider than AA i think) other good packs on this page too, but I don't know prices. Site * Sorry to anyone who "found them first", I'm just tryin to make 'em easier for people to find :) Also, I haven't read of anyone buying these(batts w/tabs) and noticing how much smaller they actually are compared to stock batteries. |
Welcome to the forums NewZZaddict. Look in the bit science forum for the layman's mod. In that post actofgod uses or makes referance to the button cells.
Also toyeast sells 200mah batts, here's a link.. http://www.toyeast.com/proddetail2.asp?pdtid=AC2014 |
Thanks sessiz10,
I actually bought 2 of the 200mAh batteries from Toyeast as well as 2 3.8 motors. What I really wanted to bring attention to was the batteries at batteriesamerica.com because they are shorter than the others i've seen so far(besides the button cells of course) and the tabs make it easier to solder without damaging the cell. Also, I believe the button cells you are referring to are 40mAh as apposed to the 70mAh I mentioned. The ones actofgod used are a much better fit, alot cheaper, and if you peak charge them as he talks about they are great. I just thought that maybe someone out there might want to use the 70's for some stupid reason. Probably due to lack of sleep lately. Anyways I hope you can see the difference in length on the 150mAh w/tabs http://home.attbi.com/~andthenandthen/shorties.JPG |
