Will this also be one of the bodies that you will be selling?

Spanky 03-07-2003 09:38 AM

yes

Stridex 03-07-2003 12:24 PM

That's not vac molded is it? Looks like a nice resin job. I think those wheels are too big for it (the rims are great), but I really like the body.

midget_man1387 03-07-2003 01:28 PM

another brilliant work of art prepared for us by Spanky!

Spanky 03-07-2003 02:23 PM

Nope thats not a vac mold. im gonna attempt a vac mold with it.. and id like to do a resin mold too. but i just have to figure out how to do it.. a vac mold of this can be done, but to make it vac moldable with the materials i have i will have to put a tuneau cover on the back of it.. maybe a small piece of canvas... or cloth painted black or something..

as for the tires, they will work with some mods to the chassis.. basically i will have to lengthen the axles.. and then mount the body on posts...

strider_mt2k 03-07-2003 03:16 PM

Nice truck!

Doesn't even look like it needs that much trimmming to make it work. That will definitely be a cool one, it's there now! :D

Spanky 03-07-2003 03:31 PM

ive already did all the triming/puttying/shaving necessary. i just need to mold it to put it on my car...

cvictim 03-09-2003 01:08 AM

Vacuum molding

where do you get vac mold supplies and equipment?

Spanky 03-09-2003 02:26 AM

all of the equipment is at work. supplies are ordered through one of the companys distributors.. not really sure. i just tell them what i want and they get it (i have to pay for it if its not work related).

midget_man1387 03-09-2003 12:38 PM

Spanky, two requests:

a fifty six chevy(probably sick of hearing it), but my dad said he would FOR SURE buy it if it was made

definitely make the tony stewart home depot chevy montecarlo, it's my mom's fave, she would buy that one, too lol

thanx...

denden 03-09-2003 02:07 PM

Here's my latest

Spanky 03-11-2003 02:35 AM

cool what kinda molds do you use? silicone, latex, rubber... and what brands of resin are you using.. i stopped by the TAP plastics today and they can set me up with everything i need to make molds for under 20 bucks.. i still havent decided if im gonna do it yet. i have to wait till friday as im broke right now.

denden 03-11-2003 09:03 AM

I use silicone rubber to make the mold and liquid plastic to make the cast .

Spanky 03-11-2003 03:54 PM

ok, since nobody has really done a tutorial on how to do a resin, mold i will start one tonite. i have the camera ready so i will have pics. this is the only body that i plan on molding..

blownPT 03-12-2003 03:11 AM

anyone know when the tutorial on resin molding's comin' out? -VERY interested over here.

Spanky 03-12-2003 09:34 AM

hopefully tonite, i had to do a bit more cleanup work on the body to get it prepped, i will cover it alll in the tutorial.

blownPT 03-12-2003 09:59 AM

Again, Thanks a lot,

Spanky 03-17-2003 02:35 AM

sorry for not finishing this up.. but i will soon. i have to go to the other side of the country this week for a family emergency. i haev finished the upper part of the mold and removed the clay. all looks good, although i dont think i mixed the silicone correctly because its still kinda soft, but it wont lose its shape or anything like that...

dr1zz 03-17-2003 02:59 PM

resin molds?

i used the clear resin for my casting and i got a few air bubbles. but overall not too bad considering my impatience. i have to trim a few areas on the body, then i get to paint!

denden, your bus came out nice! good job, can you make a 21 window?

i can wait to see the truck spanky, mebee we can all trade a body or two :D

OK , it's only a 18 window but , it is a mini ??:D :)

denden 03-17-2003 03:18 PM

Right now I'm making a mold of my new vw beetle .
The mods are ENDLESS !!!!!

dr1zz 03-17-2003 03:25 PM

i agree

i just poured a mold of an entire chasis, 4 rims, steering magnet arm, front knuckles, pcb cover and.... something else i forget...oh the charging part where you put your car onto.......i seem to brake alot of these.

but can you imagine a clear car?? i wont be able to hide anything but who cares!?!

Spanky 03-25-2003 05:03 PM

whew.. those are looking like some great moldded cars you guys got going there.... anyway now that im back home i am going to start working on the truck again.. i should have some pics in the next day or two..

i do have one question. the resin that im using so far has not given me a smooth surface. when curing it gets kinda rough, and does not have that glossy look. i heard that you can apply a coat of clear to clean it up, but was wondering if anyone else is experienceing the same thing....

Canadian Bit 03-26-2003 07:02 PM

Spanky, have you gotten the Vector Hotwheel yet? And are you willing to mold my Lexus IS300 [when it's done] for one of 'em 52 Ford pickups?

Spanky 03-26-2003 10:05 PM

no i havent recieved the vector yet. but i have finished the mold on the truck and have poured the first body... yea i could mold one of the is300's... not a prob.

Spanky 03-30-2003 04:03 AM

ok. i just did the wheel mod and now the car is looking awesome. i will follow up with a how to, on the wheel mod, tomorow or the next day. i have to sort through all of the pics that i took... i also need to extend the charging base on my controller so that i can get the car to the charger. ride height has been almost trippled..

heres one pic

Spanky 03-30-2003 04:17 AM

woah!! first test run and this thing flys!! gets good grip, and high top speed probably due to larger tires.. only problem is steering. i need stronger magnets, and a stronger steering spring.

midget_man1387 03-30-2003 11:18 AM

looks great

I have that super glue you see in that pic: IT SUX!

Spanky 03-30-2003 01:16 PM

humm its working great for me... although i prefer Maxi-cure extra thick glue..

midget_man1387 03-30-2003 01:20 PM

It holds good, its just too liquidy, and takes a super long time to dry

Spanky 03-30-2003 01:59 PM

humm must be something with the air. mine is liquidy, which is what i like about it. but mine drys instantly.. if you want to speed up drying. get some insta-set spray. they should have it at your local hobby store. if not tower hobbys has it.. i originally got it for my maxi-cure which is thicker and can fill gaps and stuff. once sprayed it the cure time is about 2-3 seconds.

viperdout 04-11-2003 07:03 PM

Spanky, the PT crewzer in the background of one of your pics! Where are those springs available?! They might be cool for my dual motor car!

Spanky 04-12-2003 12:09 AM

they are to big for bits. your best bet for springs is to check out slot car springs.. there are several sizes. and they are not magnetic...
