How do you race your cars?

Seems to me that we all play with our cars in different ways. I was curious what most people are looking for in their car.

**Forgot to add a "None of the Above" for those who just collect or paint.

Canadian Bit 02-22-2003 09:04 AM

As you know I'm working on Bit City. It already has a 75% completed raceway and will soon have a tower, a major road, 2 parking lots, a park, some shops, an apartment building, and more. So, all of the above [except ralling].

MicRoMaN 02-22-2003 10:17 AM

I mostly do drag racers, dont have enough time to make a track. We usually drag on a pool table but the thing that sucks is that all the green lint and hairs get caught in your rear axel, no a big problem though.

ib311 02-22-2003 10:37 AM

Good topic. I race with loose courses. Whatever I can design with my 2 boxes of ZZ tracks.

Oh, I also make a big circle and have crash derby games with my friends. This one should have been added to the poll. haha

midget_man1387 02-22-2003 11:23 AM

definitely oval racing, nothing better than spinning your friends out as they go into a turn! I also enjoy loose road course racing

Squishy 02-22-2003 11:28 AM

i just got mine, but i prefer to race ralley. Before i had my car, i got bord, so i made a bunch of jumps, and man, does my car fly! i couldn't wait for my bit, so while i was at wally-world, i pickecd up a new motorworks, and it is amazing!great range, fast, and it has good controll!

PWalk 02-22-2003 12:34 PM

I hit rally course although I also run them on "technical" road courses. Never dragged them though.

midget_man1387 02-22-2003 12:38 PM

i drive too crazy to be able to do technical stuff lol

nghts 02-22-2003 12:53 PM

With my booster car I love to do rally coarse stuff made out of newspaper and books...but with my other can I usually do drag races on my air hockey table, great for traction, and floor

batesjm 02-22-2003 02:42 PM

I like the technical stuff, but I always include a long strait and a fast sweeper for some good places for the fast cars to pass.

midget_man1387 02-22-2003 02:50 PM

what do you guys use for boundaries?

d00kie 02-22-2003 03:49 PM

Well, used too (when my R/C was alive)...RALLY!!!

My carpet is thin enough to even let a 1.0 go by (with some time of course) while it still has the rough profile of the off-roads to make the 3.2 bounce like the cars u see on the WRC, too bad its pretty much flat surfacing so I had to make up for it with self-made ramps etc.

midget_man1387 02-22-2003 03:54 PM

man, oh man, I'm the lone man on the high speed oval lol

crazydave 02-22-2003 05:23 PM

I'm actually kinda surprized, I thought there was a lot more drag racer out there.

I like tight technical courses, but I like to go fast too, and with a 2.6 it starts to get too hard. That's why I would like to check out a booster car, but for now I just keep my courses loose.

I used to love 1/10th scale dirt oval racing. I thought it would be boring driving in circles, but it was actually kinda fun how one corner affects how you go into the the next corner, which affects how you come out of that turn, and so on. In 1/10 scale, when you get your suspension tweaked just right, you just tap the brake going into the corner, the left front wheel lifts, and the back end swings around. Your on the verge of spinning out, and that feeling of being on the edge of heaven or hell is a thing of beauty. Unfortunately bits don't capture the experience. It either spins out or it don't, no in between controlled drift. Maybe when I get some springs for the front end I'll be able to tweak it for oval racing.

Fourustwentius 02-22-2003 05:48 PM

Tight and technical!:D One day whenb I have money I'll make a nice country track with good grip, and lots of scenery. :D

MTL 02-23-2003 12:34 AM

wheres the "parking lot scca style" option??
for me...i just wander around with it on my tile or outside...
i sometimes use the cones...but my dog likes to eat those..

BenCloned 02-23-2003 12:41 AM

We do sort of a "King of the Mountain" on the coffee table. Nice slick surface, so when you hit another bit, they slide and spin. And it's not too high off the floor.

Also, rally races on a bedspread laid out on the floor with a few small pillows or t-shirts underneath to make varying terrain. Then just mark out a loose course with masking tape. This works best with our clones with MS 1.6 motors in them. MONSTER TORQUE for climbing, but controllable speed.

Sid 02-23-2003 12:48 AM

hi speed oval and figure 8's or just fooling around on my room floor :P

i clicked drag but ya i do this lots also

frizzen 02-23-2003 01:42 AM

I do Drag, Rally, and Slolom. And all-out ass kicking when my friend who runs mostly 1/10 scale brings his MS. :)

I would do loose road-course and monster-truck. But I don't have a track yet, and my monster-MS wasn't really worth it.

Micro S2000 02-23-2003 12:27 PM

i like the technical course. i'm building one right now its small but is still hella fun. . . and the problem i found with drag racing is its hard to start at the same time and since there's only one gear its who ever starts first

dr1zz 02-23-2003 01:17 PM

hockey!

i race with a bunch of friends. but if no tracks are available we enjoy playing HOCKEY! :D we finally got a 40mhz, 3v3 is on!

midget_man1387 02-23-2003 04:46 PM

soccer.

BenCloned 02-24-2003 09:09 AM

Finally got the OK from my wife to build a track. Getting the stuff today. I'm thinking high speed oval with a technical road course in the middle, and share the front straight and first turn. Kinda like some real tracks. I'll just use a temp barrier like cones to block off the part we're not racing on.

Yo midgetman, you changed your avatar. Did you finally get your cast off?

batesjm 02-24-2003 11:27 AM

To make my track I got a peice of 4x8 plywood and screwed some peices of 2x2 to the sides to outline the plywood. Then i got a 1x6 and cut it into half inch strips of various lengths. Finally i got some short brads and put them into the strips, this keeps them in place. When I want to change the layout of my track from an oval to a technical track i just pull up the strips in the center and hammer the layout i want in place. Ill try to post pics later.

You'll feel it again next winter when it gets cold. Broken many myself (14 all together).

Back on topic:
I'm starting on my track tonight. 4x8' masonite, 5/8" oval flex tubing. Thinking about using the tack-in idea so I can change the layout when I want to.

I'm only out $17 for supplies! The track cost less than my MS.

midget_man1387 02-24-2003 06:33 PM

lol, thanks for the tip, i'll remember that lol.

as for the track, i love the idea, make sure to post pics through construction!
