My rear tab broke

One half of my rear tab snapped off. The one where the heat sink lock goes into. How do you fix it?

savage sound 02-14-2003 10:55 AM

Get a new chassis.

~SnakeBitRacer~ 02-14-2003 11:26 AM

Thats a relly good suggestion (sarcasm) That happened to me too. If you can't clip the motor down then just tape the heat sink

PWalk 02-14-2003 11:38 AM

Use scotch tape to tape down the heat sink,
BUT make sure you trim it down or else the body won't sit on the chassis correctly.
Good Luck

CA Glue will fix it. Its like super glue bet a bit thicker and not as brittle.

My current bit I actually cut off the front and rear tabs and re-glued them back on lower down with CA glue. Allow to dry and tidy up with a file and its has strong as before.

My first bit I lowered the body by cutting slots in a different place and trying to repair the old slots and paint it. It looked poo, because I am no good at painting and body repairs.

What does CA glue stand for. I used some epoxy and its kind of gooey. It holds pretty well, but not as strong. You can see the tab bend a little bit when the heat sink is on.

btlmr 02-14-2003 12:26 PM

I can't remember its a long chemical name.

btlmr 02-14-2003 12:27 PM

After looking on google:

Cyanoacrilate (super glue, AKA CA)

Apparently its used more in 1/10th RC for sticking tyres to rims.

Zephyranthes 02-14-2003 05:48 PM

If it is stronger than super glue, where can you get it?

Hatchet_Dan 02-14-2003 07:57 PM

your LHS or if your lucky like me and live about 2 blocks from a r/c race track g up there and ask some one if you can use theres

denden 02-14-2003 08:29 PM

While doing some of my customs , I found it necessary to remove
that tab . I then glued the motor in place . It works fine , but
I suggest you glue a motor that you don't plan to remove again.

if u mail me a SESA ill put a clone chassis in it.. what freq do you use? i may even be able to put the pcb and steering coil sin there assumign you have a freq that i have.

Zephyranthes 02-15-2003 12:27 AM

It's a 49mhz MicroSizer. I emailed Hobbico, hopefully they will answer.

Quest for Madness sells bare chassis for $5, you might have to pick up a matching controller too, which is also $5. I am suffering from the same problem. I am tired of regluing the tab. I spend more time gluing than running it seems.

Zephyranthes 02-15-2003 10:26 AM

It's not a BCG or MS chassis though. Would it still work with my controller? I'm probably just going to ask Hobbico for a new chassis. They haven't replied yet, but I emailed them late at night yesterday and it is still early morning here.

JTM 02-15-2003 05:03 PM

keep in mind its a 3 day weekend.

vw_nut 02-18-2003 02:02 AM

yea, this happened to me too ... using CA on the tab won't do the trick ... the part where it touches the chassis is too small ... so do this ... get a an "L" shaped platic tab so you can CA it on the chasis (got mine from an old tamiya model) ... then drill a hole for the metal lock ... works like a charm

btlmr 02-18-2003 03:50 AM

Adding the CA glue to just the surfaces that touch isn't enough. Agreed.

I glued it on left it for an hour, then I added a lot of glue and built it up. The next day I sanded it back where required. I would say is stronger than original now.

MST3KPIMP 02-18-2003 11:04 AM

what you need is kevlar thread that balsa plane builders use to add lightweight reinforment. You just put CA on it and it dries into an extremely strong band-aid. I used it to repair my x-cars tab.

Zephyranthes 02-19-2003 06:53 PM

Hobbico is sending a mew a new chassis.
