Yea Spray paint is great thats what I did, sprayed it blue and white and added ylw striping

hogjowlz 01-23-2003 07:16 PM

use really light coats or it will be thick. also goto an auto shop and get some detail caps or look on a grafitti site.

midget_man1387 01-23-2003 07:17 PM

Yes, when I sprayed my microsizer body, I taped off the tail and head lights, and the windows. The only thing I did wrong was spray paint the body from the outside:eek: lol, let's just say that won't happen again. Luckily for me, it still turned out great( After a clear coat)!

JTM 01-23-2003 07:57 PM

i think your supposed to paint it from the outside... b/c of the thickness of the plastic.. its not lexan (those are spposed to be painted from the inside)

Cyber BRat 01-23-2003 07:58 PM

I paint all my cars on the outside. Then I clear coat them.

They come painted on the outside so why not paint them on the outside?

As the feedback on my Fast and the Furious skylines will show, spray paint is the way to go.

The hardest part is masking. Takes some paitence.

midget_man1387 01-23-2003 07:59 PM

I dunno

well, I've been told to spray paint the clear bodies from the inside(obviously after i did mine, though)

eman1 01-23-2003 08:06 PM

that is more for the thinner bigger r/c bodies that are clearer.

midget_man1387 01-23-2003 08:10 PM

I see....

Silentbob343 01-23-2003 08:44 PM

Isn't there a special lexan paint that you're supposed to use?

Cyber BRat 01-23-2003 08:55 PM

I find certian brands stick better than others.

midget_man1387 01-23-2003 09:00 PM

I just used regular old model spray paint

shocon2k 01-23-2003 09:19 PM

I used a paintbrush, cuz I can't buy spraypaint at my college store for whatever reason, and can't really use it in my dorm. Let me tell you, it came out like SH!T. I am thinking I'll probably have to sand it down to a smooth finish and clearcoat it, but again, I will be whipping out the F*CKIGN PAINTBRUSH.

midget_man1387 01-23-2003 09:23 PM

I used a paintbrush for my rims, and they came out great. What was wrong with it? did you apply it too thick?

blght 01-23-2003 09:34 PM

painting rims and painting the whole body are kind of 2 separate adventures :) rims can definitely be managed with a brush, but once you start hitting the larger surfaces with a brush (hood, roof, sides), the brush strokes can really become apparent....it's just tough to get a "happy medium" between thick & thin coats with a brush.

For masking can you cover it with 2 layers of masking tape & cut w/ an exacto knife. I'm thinkin of that. I got a good knife hand :)

Cyber BRat 01-23-2003 11:19 PM

I only use one layer of masking tape and a box cutter knife.

midget_man1387 01-24-2003 11:49 AM

I used just one layer of masking tape, and a razor blade

Spanky 01-24-2003 03:55 PM

testors
plasti-cote
pactra
tamyia
rust-o-leum
krylon

all these choices for paint but which ones work the best? should i just go with the cheapest? or which ever ones have the color that i want?

hogjowlz 01-24-2003 04:16 PM

krylon is the best for painting walls but id use model paint for plastic

JTM 01-24-2003 04:22 PM

taggers need to be shot.

spaz13 01-24-2003 06:43 PM

Taggers own!!!!!!!!!!

JTM 01-24-2003 06:54 PM

how woud you like it if some stupid lil twat came and painted your property and made your nieghborhood look like crap? if i ever caught a tagger id punch him square in the face. then maybe spray him.

shocon2k 01-24-2003 09:02 PM

The thing is...I should have primered by body, because if I hold it up to light, its transparent in parts and really uneven. Also, brush strokes sort of disappear as the paint dries, but I can't get the damn thing to be totally opaque.

Also, I agree, taggers should be shot. Usually some high school kids just write a bunch of illegible and unattractive jibberish. It means nothing to anyone.

hogjowlz 01-24-2003 11:03 PM

i wasnt talking about running up and down the street with a marker. thats sensless vandalism and not really an artform.

there are grafitti artists who make more money doing a single mural than you make in a year.

Spanky 01-24-2003 11:13 PM

has anyone used "FASKOLOR" by parma? i just got some because i liked the color hehe... if so how did it turn out.

:bdrop: :bdrop: :bdrop: bc24m b22awgm b26

JTM 01-25-2003 07:16 AM

sorry ive never heard of a grafitti artist makeing 50k for one mural... come to think of it i havent heard of them making 15k either...
