How much does it cost?
i really hate that question...seems like im asked that every time i have something....

well when i bring my bit around places....people always ask..and i say "thirty dollars"...and they are like "DAAAMN nevermind" etc...and im like err..umm...yeah....."dont drop it"
and "you can get a crappy one for $9, it aint the real thing, its half the speed, and it wont last"

what about if you have like a HPI, Tamiya, etc, and you say "$200" people always think you are an idiot....those are the people that never have heard of a thing called a "hobby"....

I'd have to agree. "Well how much was that car?" '290 for kit and 180 for electronics". "I could think of better ways to spend 400 bucks"... Im sure everyone has a hobby, wether video games, golfing or micro RC's. They have no right to say anything, they probably spend as much if not more on stuff that we would laugh at. But thats why there are so many hobbies to choose from. Sorry if I am rambling its 230.

you could tell them theres bigger ones for $500 and its not even completed then.

my 'hobby' is mountainbiking, people often ask how much i paid for it, when i reply "£1000/$1500" they just stand there :eek: :eek: :eek:

some people just don't understand.

When I brought my Bit to school for the first time, I'm pretty sure that every single person that said something to me about it asked how much it was. It does get really annoying. I can't buy an R/C car that costs $250 or even $25 without getting grief! The worse part is that my friends wouldn't spend their money on the R/C hobby like I do. They'd rather play video games. :rolleyes: too bad... we all know what they're missing out on

Yup, me too.

Radio Shack has it right though...At $20 people have more of a 'hmmm' attitude, but at $30 (for MicroSizers) it's more of an 'ouch, too much' attitude.

I've got an easy come-back for girls/women who give me attitude though...After they make their little "Oh, boys and their toys" comment, I look down at their shoes and ask "how much" and "how many pairs" they have...That usually shuts them right up.

that question comes up more for my mini-z.

and i know a lot of people who think there in the hobby of r/cing but all they have the cheap tyco ones....and there like i bet my tyco r/c can rip right through mini-z...and they pull out this giant monster truck and i just drive circles around it...


and those are the people that think they can buy the exact same thing for a lot less$$$ and have the same quality but they don't!!!

1/12 rc car guy at work: well you got a 180 dollar controller, i got a nice quick for its size car with a controller for 35 :p

console gamer: I dunnot what to say to these guys except htey got 400 dollars easy ties into a deck that going to be unused 2 years from now, maybe sooner. And prolly going to sell to someone else with all those games for a 100

auto racing: I mylsef love suto racing, but cannot afford a car just to race, and cant afford the caliber of medical insurance id need if i screw up and land on hte other side of a barrier wall.

computer hardware nuts.....dont even go there, im in that territory too, dropping 3k a year on hardware between 2 pc's is insane...thank god most hardware nuts love these things too :D

anyone who gos off about it beign a tiny car...and leaving 1/12th scales alone...well 1/12th scale is tiny too, at least when compared to a real car. size dosent matter when the car is almost as capable as a car tens of times its size.

Alnd last but not least...anyone who calls em kids toys: dude.....dont oyu collect hot wheels? (relace hotwheels with beanies, gi joes, dolls, piggy banks, etc) Just cause kids like em doesnt mean adults can use em too, heck i have a cousin whos 12 and loves the porsche 911, does that mean its a kids toy......i hope not.....

and yes i do have a piggy bank, the little pudgeball of coinage is niec and full right now :D

yea i skate and most people dont really realize how much that cost the deck itself cost 50 bucks, 50 for a pair of trucks, 20 for a good set of bearings, and about 30 for wheels. then id break more board on loading docks like every month (thank god that i have a job) and then add in the cost of fixing my broken finger i got

i had a friend of mine tell me that buying these are a waste of time and money blahblahblahblahblah... :rolleyes: and i promptly told him to STFU cuz it was my HOBBY and that he should stop wasting his money on those dumb comic books.... :rolleyes: :p

god that question "how much lalalala" really bugs me, then the reaction like mtl stated, drives me crazy. I could go on with my friend's and their warhammer crap, no offense to anyone who plays it, i just find it pointless. warhammer a bunch of 40 dollar pieces of plastic that don't move on their own, that you have to paint and assemble and have an imaginary battle. That maybe a hobby but i don't understand how they can say bit's are pointless when warhammer is sort of along the same lines. I'm rambling, sorry.

$30 dollars to me isn't expensive for a fine piece of toy with function, specially an R/C toy. Actually, the price of these things and extras is part of the reason I'm into it now, being a somewhat poor college person, its rather affordable than other hobbies (spending $100+ on Neo Geo Carts, $200+ on airsoft) while allowing one to improvise as many people have done.
My mother agrees with me at least, she bought a Bit (under my suggestion) for my little cousin's Xmas present.

Guess some people just can't 'feel the magic' of little replicas.

hell ive been buying stupid japanese things for years. more so since ive grown up and goten a job and could buy what i want.

i guess i thrive on shocking people with weird new things. try sitting on a bus playing tombraider on a pocketpc without drawing a crowd.

I hear that. When I got a Wonderswan Color and whipped it out while sitting on a bench in front of a Babbages, I got some puzzled looks. The manager looked faint and wanted to buy it off me.

Just about anyone who isn't already simpathetic to a hobby is going think anything more than $20 is a waste. I used to paint miniatures and that gets expensive, but it's fun. (Not to mention lucrative if you sell your spare painted minis.) Once you get far enough into a hobby you're going to disconnect from the majority.

People always ask questions when they see my computer. For some reason custom coloring and plexi windows are just foreign to most people. Not to mention water-cooling or a dozen fans in one machine. When you have love for the art you just do it because it feels good.

I'm a computer nut as well, but now im moving towards quiet cooling, my dad was stunned when he heard i was considering evaporater equipment for my pc :)

Just tired of my gaming rig sounding like the buisiness end of a jet turbine...

well either way my friends all think im nuts too with the stuff i do to them...ide raid...color match all my components, and my networking addiction....network printers, network palm pilot, now all i need is a networked beer :D

and dont even ask about hte mess of cables behind my desk, thats a story all of its own.....and its gonna get worse.....i got another machine coming in :D :D :D

Yeah, my last machine was a monster. She had one hell of a whine until I clocked her back down and added a switch-bus.

I've just recently gotten involved in watercooling, and I'm digging the silence.

It seems that's the way the community is going these days. Last year, the volume of your PC was a direct relation to your dedication/performance. Nowadays people seem to be willing to sacrifice a little performance or go to more "exotic" cooling methods for a nice quiet rig.

heh i used to collect/buy alot of deluxe japanese anime action figures.....they were around $20-30 each....i have a whole desktop full of action figures...i stopped, becaue i got too lazy to dust them off, and clean them :D
