Zip Zap Delay

Just Spoke to a Radio Shack employee... looks like Radio Shack, at least where I'm at, won't recieve any new zipzaps for about 3 weeks! Not sure if its true everywhere else, anyone have any other info?

hogjowlz 10-28-2002 01:19 PM

who cares? those are junk. i mean a few of their parts are worth using on other cars but the zipzap in itself has too many problems and you have to totally hack the thing apart to get a semi ok speed.

theshape 10-28-2002 01:29 PM

i recently asked one Radio Shack employee if he had any ZipZaps, then he laughed at me and asked me if i'd ever though about getting a satalite tv system.

i payed for my 3V battery and left as quickly as possible.

*shakes head*

you people.. its all about PERSONAL PREFERANCE! Its obvious that many people like bit char-g more than ZipZaps, and many others like Zips better. I really don't think you need to tell people how much one or the other "suck" or "are worthless" ect ect.
It would be great if some of you could just grow up a little and respect other's opinions, and state your own respectfully.

- i like this forum...i enjoy reading about and sharing pictures and mods for the Zip Zap cars...

- but the juvenile 'zz is junk' postings are starting to get on my nerves...

- i wish the forum software had more advanced filtering facilities...

preach it!
if any of you dont like zz then get the HELL off the board! :D

marc515192 10-28-2002 06:45 PM

I'll second that emotion there is a board just for Bits/Microsizers if you don't like zipzaps stay in your YARD!

ORB1 10-28-2002 08:32 PM

People have to realize that zip zaps are helping all of us out by bringing renewed interest in tiny rc! What this means is that the companies that have been the leaders will have to work a bit harder to get our attention. Hopefully this will spark more creative solutions in the tiny rc market.

While the Zip Zaps might not be great, I firmly believe that the other brands still need some more refinement. We are at a great point in tiny rc history and I expect that we'll all be happy to see what will come in the near future!

usagi 10-28-2002 09:53 PM

hum.............They are not junk. Some like them some don`t.:o

usagi 10-29-2002 08:10 AM

hogjowlz, this is a zipzaps forum so................ Many are ZipZap sowners.So...........................hence the pro views of the ZipZaps.
If you don`t like them then don`t post here. Its that simple. Please have a little repect for owners in this thread........We are all here to help each other not bash each.

if you are looking to buy a little dinky rc car look at tomy/clone cars before payin radiosnack

- hmm... did you read the forum agreement when you signed up?

- if your posts clutter up the board, disrupt threads, or otherwise contribute to a higher noise ratio to data bandwidth, then i'd say you don't 'have every right to be on this board.' (but i'm not a moderator, just posting my opinion, as you have)...

- i'd like to see some definitive pictures to document the "cheezy" aspect of the zz cars... from what i have seen, the PCBs are clean, parts are trimmed, microelectronics are properly soldered, units well packaged, etc. - can you say the same about the 'clones' you suggest people waste their money on?

[OK, i will grant you one concession: the zz controller PCB *is* rather crude and doesn't seem to be as sophisticated as the zz carriage electronics; however, from everything i've read, tomy/clone owners don't seem to be too happy with their controllers either]

:-)

- i'd heartily suggest that if someone were going to buy 'a dinky little r/c car,' that person should AVOID purchasing a more expensive tomy, and especially AVOID buying a clone car...

- but then again, i 'have every right' to say you're wrong and that your logic is flawed...

- please back up your opinions with facts

- i'd welcome posts/pics detailing the workmanship of other maker's models - don't you agree that would be interesing?

usagi 10-29-2002 08:37 AM

lnx_author is 100% correct. Hogjowlz, if you continue to junk up or to Neg comments you messages with Deleted.

lnx_author 10-29-2002 08:47 AM

- differing opinions are good!

- sharing specific faults or problems are even better...

- but i'd like to know how many mini-rc users can run the cars on carpets? for how long?

:-)

hogjowlz 10-29-2002 08:51 AM

on thick carpet about 2min run time not very fast but i can maneuver.

on kitchen carpet a little better run time and it is faster than my zipzap was on linoleum.

i will admit that my bit clone has the green zipzap gear and zipzap rear tires which are highly superior to the ones that came on it.

lnx_author 10-29-2002 08:54 AM

- whoa! that *is* impressive... yep, the zz dies as soon as it hits any carpet...

- but the only difference is the motor? or are the tires larger, car jacked up, etc? IOW, what makes the other cars more capable?

hogjowlz 10-29-2002 08:58 AM

torque.

it doesnt run on carpet well with slicks on because it has too much torque. with the zz tires it grips and is fast. just wait until i get my spoiler on the body for some extra rear end weight.

i will post video sooner or later.

- hmm...

[now pondering motors]

hogjowlz 10-29-2002 09:28 AM

the zipzap doesnt push enough juice to the motor. i tried the dual battery mod and the added torque was cancelled out by the added weight. im sure the pcb mod would be a better idea but why would i want to pay more money to rip something apart when i can buy a cheaper car that is way faster?

I enjoy this board a lot except for so much negativity showing up lately. I've been an on-and-off RC car buff for years. Mostly nitro monster trucks and on-road cars. Until recently, the smallest car I'd ever bought was a mini-z. I'd seen the Microsizers and Bits, but they never got my attention long enough to consider buying one. I wrote them off as kid toys as I would pass by them at the LHS on the way to pick up a part or fuel for a nitro truck. Then I was introduced to the ZipZaps. I liked the realistic looking bodies and the price(availability is another issue). When I got the first one, I went nuts. They are a lot of fun and so simple to run indoors when it's done nothing but rain outside lately. I now have 3 ZZ's, the F&F tuner set, performance booster set, wheels and tires set, and have been looking hard for a black Civic to run with my gold rims and 1.0 motor. It will be my desktop stress reliever at work. I've customized a Stang body with racing stripes, paint, spoiler, and sponsor decals. I'm hooked. Micro RC cars are great fun. I think the RC car hobby is great but I don't understand all the brand loyalty some folks have. Last year, I bought a Thunder Quake monster truck, and when I read the forums, there was usually some upset TMaxx guy on there bashing the new product on the Thunder Quake forum. Experiment a little, try something new, have fun, but respect the opinions of others. As for the ZipZaps being any good, they brought me into the world of micro RC and have peaked an interest I didn't know I had. Now, I am considering getting a Microsizer, too, since they have more available frequencies(no longer a kids toy). I also like the Puchi Maru for its prop. controls, but it seems a little pricey for me when I consider the bang/buck ratio. Before I discovered ZipZaps and this site, I had never heard of the Epochs, but now I want a series 2 pretty bad. IT'S ALL GOOD! Have fun with your cars, I certainly do.

1 week for me

I called 10 Radioshacks near me all of them said they are "sold out" but we will have some "next week" ya right...

ORB1 10-29-2002 09:37 PM

looks like radioshack gets shipments in once a week and most of the employees have no clue what will be in their next shipment.

Tee Bee 10-30-2002 01:00 AM

The latest rumors I heard today were from a RS employee. She said that the store's allotment of Zips to sell will now be based on battery sales, not the previous sales of Zips. They sell out everywhere without any effort. This forces the stores to push the sale of batteries in order to keep the Zips comin' their way. She said to tell all my friends to come to RS for their Christmas battery needs if I wanted to see ZipZap merchandise stay on the shelves. Hmm. While looking at the few items(no cars) that they had in stock, I noticed pegs designated for the Spongebob and Wild Thornberry body kits with $0.00 price tags on them. I asked and she said that those kits would supposedly be free with car purchase when they arrived. Free? What's up with that? We'll see. Sign me up for anything free. Now, if I could just get that black Civic, my set would be complete. Or maybe not:p

How are you guys having problems on carpet? Granted, Red Motor/Gear/Axle doesn't work on carpet well, but mine flies! [relatively speaking]. On thicker carpet, I use my 27mhz black civic with the Red motor and stock gearing. It seems to do well.

Deadite 11-02-2002 04:08 AM

Congradulations RS!

I just visited radioshack.com and they don't have a single zipzap, hopup, or accesory. They are out of everything related to zipzaps. It looks like the wonderful RS employess and the profiteers have gotten them all.

usagi 11-02-2002 06:40 AM

well thats sad, then again its common place these days:(

DraKhen99 11-02-2002 12:12 PM

That IS sad... and I saw on ebay that 2 ZipZaps, a F&F Kit [the one with the NOS motor] and a case are going for $120... not the START price, but that's where people are actually BIDDING!

I totally agree, I'll willing to bet that all this talk against ZZ is due to the fact that they are cheaper $20 and that they are sold by Radio Shack! Not a "hobby shop" So people descard them as being lame without much thought...I got my first mini RC a "ZZ" a few days ago, Only because I thought it was amaizing technology to have an RC car that small, second reason $20. After I did some research I noticed that the same technology is used on the Bits...yet they charge $30 for those! I think the ball is on their court.
Great move by Radio Shack!!!
