Racer9 08-17-2004 07:43 PM

Sounds great! They better look good.

I wonder if these are actually SE2s

jamgunner 08-17-2004 08:50 PM

any predictions on monster truck booster? lower gearing and hi-torque motor i assume???

Azimov 08-18-2004 09:05 AM

That's great stuff there green guy. Looks like the "new" cars rummored to be comming are just correctly working SEs with new body styles. Could still be some impovements though. RS seems to like slipping in little tweaks every now and then. Gonna be fun to find out.
This may reveal my auto model ignorance, but what is a Ford GT?

This's a Ford GT

Jtskty 08-19-2004 02:16 PM

wow, monster truck parts. I hope dual motor motor mount and maybe like a 16:1 gearing. Along with two matched motors. Hopefully the monster tire kit will be good with good sized tires and maybe the new zips (not se's) will have motorized steering to turn the bigger tires better.

Twenty-Se7en 08-29-2004 08:31 PM

I wonder when they will have these in Canada... guess i'll get one of the vipers off of Ebay...

Namuna 08-30-2004 12:10 PM

Keep your eyes peeled folks, the GTOs should be in stores very soon and should already be orderable via their toll-free number!

60-7051 Navy Ford GT SE 24.99 (ETA Aug 28th)
60-7050 White Ford GT SE 24.99 (ETA Aug 28th)

Azimov 08-30-2004 01:20 PM

Cool, gonna check it out. I figured they would hit the stores before I got mine. Salesman, you gotta love em.

richh 08-30-2004 03:11 PM

i called the 1800 number and they told me they were out of stock. i asked, out of stock as in they got some and shipped them all out, or out of stock as in they have not arrived yet. they said not sure, but to try back in a few days...

typically they are available through the 1800 number before they hit the stores, right?

Azimov 08-30-2004 05:04 PM

Yup, usually.

Namuna 08-30-2004 05:33 PM

I was lucky enough to get through to someone that actually KNEW what they were doing.

She pulled up the info and got that same "out of stock" status, but she used some kind of Mojo to dig deeper and get me those original ETA dates.

Sdog 08-31-2004 06:50 PM

I'm excited about the new SE's, especially the Ford GT40.

I just hope RS has done more than slap a great shell on the existing SE chasis. The Ford GT40 and the Viper will need to sit fairly low to look good and I think the current high profile of the SE elctronics would prohibit that. It was OK for the muscle cars and the Torino because their body styles allowed for the high profile (these are the best 1:64 scale rc's to date IMO). I hope there has been some reworking of the chasis to do these new shells some justice.....I may be asking for too much.

Namuna 08-31-2004 06:56 PM

Yup, the level of disappointment I'd have for RadioShack if they came out with the GT40 and Viper SEs with the same 'thick' SE chassis would be akin to a greek tragedy.

We'll find out soon!

I hope so. I have already hit a couple of Shacks this week hoping to come across them. I'm like a little kid...I love the GT40.

Azimov 08-31-2004 07:22 PM

I had the same exact thought when the photo of the real car was posted. "Beautiful, I want one, but man that thing will ride like a 4x4 on the SE chassis. That car is made low to the ground to start with and a much slimmer chassis would be needed.." But, I'd almost bet on it looking like Bigfoot when it comes out. I hope not though.

Sdog 08-31-2004 07:27 PM

Well....we can hope. It may not look too bad on an og zipzap chasis with some mods, but the SE electronics are getting better and I'd like to see that continue.

Bad Company 08-31-2004 07:32 PM

I doubt very seriously that they are gonna redo their chassis over a few body styles, just not likely to happen. It's gonna be the same old thing, cool looking body sitting up like a monster truck, in which at that time, I will be forced to stick them on a normal Zip chassis tab lowered.

But I hope they prove me soooo wrong.

Sdog 08-31-2004 07:40 PM

I doubt they would change the chasis over a few new shells too. But, what I'm hoping for is the continued evelotion of the SE chasis, which includes lowering the profile....not just for these two new shells, but all others in the future. Starting at these two shells, both beautiful, low cars makes perfect sense. I know it is wishful thinking.

I'm pretty sure someone from RS follows these forums. It would be in their best interest, from a marketing standpoint, to do so and foolish not to. This is one of the reasons I like discussions like this on these forums. I've started another thread in another forum titled "ZipZap SE, RS are you listening?" for the sole purpose of discussions like this, hoping that RS takes note.

Bad Company 08-31-2004 07:45 PM

There was once a so called RS rep. posting here. Whether he was for real, who knows. All I can say is they haven't taken our advice yet.

You don't agree that the electronics have improved when the muscle cars came out?

I agree. I think the only improvement may be just proper working steering and possibly an upgrade in the H-bridge transistors, maybe. RS has been known to do this before.
It is odd that they are clearing the shelves like this. This may indicate some improvements are on the way, it may not. The word "improved" has been used in emails I've gotten from people at RS. Whether this pertains to the latest steering fixes only, or imply upgrades to the SE line is still up in the air. But, not much longer to find out.

I agree they have, but I think that was just a natural evolution like what happened to the normal Zips. It is still sketchy which cars are fixed. Could just be a quality control thing in the manufacturing process and not necessarely a production fix, if that makes since.

Yup, it could just come down to tighter quality control now. Though some minor defects still slip through. Dunno.

Bad Company 08-31-2004 07:53 PM

Guess what I'm trying to say is it's quite possible that the good cars are coming out of one production line and the bad ones out of another.

Don't get me wrong, I am and have always been Zips biggest fan and will stick by them.

Makes perfect sense. I think I have been lucky with the new SE's I have bought (3 out of the box, 2 still packaged) The three I have run all work great. However, it may just be that my first two SE's, especially the Mustang, had really poor steering....so the new ones look much better. I still like my Audi TT shell though :)

This was true when the original Zips came out. The two different frequencies came from two different factories with the 49Mhz models having better quality. Could still be the case with the SEs. But, an overall jump in steering quality just occured for all cars. With some still having very minor defects. This implies some kind of production tweak or parts upgrade.

Sdog 08-31-2004 08:04 PM

Azimov....based on some of your posts, you seem to have the inside scoop on the RS stuff. How is that?

Azimov 08-31-2004 08:24 PM

Quote:

No not really. I had a conversation with a customer rep supervisor at RS. I got pissed about having a collection of over a dozen cars that stuttered and had uneven steering.
The guy told me a few things that are interesting but uninformative at best. He promised to send me two cars when the "new" ones hit the warehouse. All "old" cars were out of stock. He also said that the new cars were "improved" and I should be happier with them. Everything I've posted is really conjecture and wishful thinking on what those quoted words mean.

Namuna 09-01-2004 12:37 PM

Tried calling RadioShack again today to try and order the new SEs, and all 4 are still on back-order status (apparently ‘back-ordered’ is a generically used term for back-ordered and ‘not yet available’).

A nice enough guy asked me my name and number and that he’ll call me back with updated details of ETA.

I’ll post an update once I have more info.

Sdog 09-01-2004 04:30 PM

Cool...looking forward to the news.

Could that mean that they have already sent a bunch of shipments out to stores and they just don't have them in the factory right now?

Namuna 09-01-2004 05:18 PM

Well, so much for that...It's after 6pm here and I haven't heard back from Ratshack, I don't think I'm going to either.

Well, I'll be makin another call tomorrow then.

Sdog 09-01-2004 08:28 PM

Persistant are we? :D

Namuna 09-02-2004 06:11 AM

Hehe, I've been known to go into 'tunnel vision' mode when it comes to getting more info on something I want! ;)

Bad Company 09-02-2004 06:49 AM

I used to have a girl call me everytime something new came out on that day and usually put the item on hold, but she suddenly stop. Maybe she no longer works there. Time to work my magic on some other unsuspecting female. ;)

nice dream BC, nice dream...

I know this doesn't really fit the thread but what do you people think of the Mustang? How is quality of that one... I like the look of it and think i'm gonna buy a couple.

I have a Mustang and the steering is pretty messed up. Then again, I bought mine when they first came out. I'd take Namuna's advice and check the codes on the box before you buy (2A04) or later. Actually, if you really like the look of it get it. If it doesn't work properly, you can always return it.

Personally, I think they did a bad job with the Mustang shell. The profile of the fenders and quarter panels are way too high. I'm sure the reason for this has to do with the high profile of the electronics as we were discussing earlier.

Jtskty 09-06-2004 06:27 PM

Any more info on this? I am especially interested in whats gonna come in those monster truck kits.

Not a dream....

This one gal used to call me at work the very first thing the day something new was released from the 800 line and hold the item till I ordered it. Ask any old timers here, I usuall was the first with something new days before they showed up anywhere else.

In fact, TinyRC was the first place to see an actual SE. ;)
