Altezza light tutorial

well this is my car:
http://www.myimgs.com/data/darkjester/802.jpg

As u can see there are altezza lights. Its not really all that hard to make these, ive been meanign to make these for a while now but im cool and lazy like that.

ok heres the tut. ENJOY!

Materials needed:

paint thinner

1 small sheet of shiny material (foil, silver leaf, etc.)
i used foil for mine

1 razor (for cutting excess foil)

1 red Sharpie (its what i used)

ok now here are the steps

Steps:

Step 1: Separate your xmod body from the chassis

Step 2: Look at the back behind where the lights are located
You will see little plastic blobs that connect the lights to
the body. Take the razor (or however you want to take it
out) and cut out the plastic.

Step 3: Take out the lights. Make sure the little plastic rods are
intact, or you're screwed.

Step 4: Take the thinner and take out all the paint on the lights

Step 5: Take the red sharpie and color where you want the red
to be

Step 6: Get the sheet of foil and place it where the lights will go
on the body. So pretty much place the foil where the
lights are placed.

Step 7: Push the lights through the foil and back onto the body,
and now you should have foil sticking out of the sides of
the lights.

Step 8: Cut out the excess foil from the body

Step 9: Now you have Altezza Lights!

Note: the lights should fit properly without having to glue it back on because theres foil making it snug. But if its loose then glue it on :)

If you use brake fluid it will safely take off the paint with out any hazin. just wash the lights with soap an water then do wat ever!

hotrod29728 08-06-2004 10:56 PM

AcuraPerformanc are you sure its brake fluid instead of brake cleaner... Cause that is to completly diffrent things... I didn't think brake fluid had the right chemicals to dissolve the paint off the lights...OR maybe had TOO MUCH chemicals to dissolve the paint... But I dunno you tell me...

AcuraPerformanc 08-08-2004 07:28 PM

i dont know what kinda paint that is on there but i havnt tryed it. I know it works with moldels , I use brake fluid to strip the paint off and it works just takes a little time and then you have to clean it good with soap and water. Iwill try it and tell you how it works.

hotrod29728 08-08-2004 09:00 PM

Okay thanks...:D

AcuraPerformanc 08-09-2004 03:51 PM

I did it today with brake fluid and it hazes the lights I didnt know that but havent found any thing to take the haze off so i dont think any one else should do this !!!

hotrod29728 08-09-2004 05:08 PM

Okay thanks for the warning AcuraPerformanc and I hope you can find something that works... Like brake cleaner or finger nail polish remover...:D

AcuraPerformanc 08-09-2004 06:03 PM

I used Clear coat to clear up the hazin it sounds crazy but it worked ok there not as bad but not super clear like i wanted

hotrod29728 08-09-2004 06:17 PM

Im fixing to experiment with finger nail polish remover on my RSX tails... Hope it works... Peace....

AcuraPerformanc 08-09-2004 06:37 PM

Good luck thats what i di the clear tails on is an rsx

hotrod29728 08-09-2004 06:59 PM

:( :( I am sad to report that the polish remover was to strong and got close to melting the plastic... I took a dremel drum to it and sanded the color off... They just look OKAY... Nothing special... I hope I can get more replies and maybe even a sticky from BC on that thread I made in Mods And Upgrades... Well I guess only time will tell...

hotrod29728 08-09-2004 07:04 PM

Thanks I'll go pick up some of it in the next few days...;) ;) ;)
HOPEFULLY...

Rolzt 08-09-2004 07:10 PM

Has anyone tried Pine-Sol? It won't melt plastic, and does a good job removing paint from styrene. Seeing as how it isn't CA, it shouldn't fog either.

AcuraPerformanc 08-09-2004 07:36 PM

that sucks that you almost melted your tails but if you find a place to get more please let me know

hotrod29728 08-09-2004 08:32 PM

Try it Rolzt and let us know... I am prolly gonna get a new body from www.AtomicMods.com if not I'll just go to the local RS and order me up two new ones....

newbitowner 08-10-2004 03:12 PM

look how clear i got the lense with "goof-off"...

newbitowner 08-10-2004 09:18 PM

AcuraPerformanc 08-10-2004 10:13 PM
