Winding question
 

When decreasing winds on a motor, do unwind the entire thing then rewind it to your preference?

You don't unwind the entire thing...


If you want to cut the wires off the comms, you can. Just unwind them however many turns you need, then solder them back at the comms they came from. Be sure to take off the same amount of winds from each leg...

If you unwind it, then you can rewind it tighter and you should get a performance increase.

That is all I do on a wind reduction... I'm lazy. :p

Well first off, what are the comms?

Its the metal tabs that the wires are connected to, there are three of them.

Ok I think I got some of this down.

Solder one end of the wire to a comm

Wrap wire around one section

Solder wire to next comm

Wrap wire

And so on.

Yeah, just remember the order of winding...

Start with a comm, solder the wire, wind it around the leg to the right in a counterclockwise fashion, and bring the wire to the next comm to the right of the leg you were winding and keep repeating that process until you are finished.

Thats the order for 130s, 180s are slightly different.

I'm confused ... do you put the total number of winds on one leg, then move to the next leg?

Almost sounds like you are doing the whole motor with one continuous wire too. Is that right?

I may open up another motor to put in some more SB magnets tonight. I'll have to take a closer look at how it's wound...:confused: I'd love to get into this winding stuff, but dont wanna screw jank up

You solder the wire to each comm, right?

If you are winding from scratch, use one wire.

You will be soldering wire to each comm, however, it may be the same wire.

If you are just doing the easy "cut-n-paste" method to unwind a few turns on the legs. You will have cut 1 wire into 3, but the connection is still there when you solder the wires back to the comms.

just dont loose count of the winds,i did that plenty of times,then had to unwind it:D
