Tin-Foil HeatSink mod.
 

K well this is a rather simple mod that reduces weight and cools the motor better then the heatsink.

First take your motor out and take off the heatsink get some tinfoil and wrap it around the whole engine and slide the original yellow motor mount over the tinfoil and install the engine and take off!

Me and many others have tried it and it cools better and it saves weight.

um.....putting tin foil over it would hold the heat IN, not dissipate it. That's why the heatsink is slotted, to allow the fins to let the heat escape after it's absorbed. What you're doing is essential wrapping a baked potato in tin foil and tossing it in the oven.

Well it's cooler to the touch.....

that does not matter if it is cooler tp the touch the motor may be burning up insde its better to just stay with the heat sink it does not add 2 much weight and if it does do some weight reduction like some parts that need 4 screws will hold on only 2 little things like that and light weight materials such as carbon fiber
by putting tinfoil on u are greatly decreasing the motors power
and speed

I think the metal heat sink is BS.

I got the stage 2 motor upgrade for my brother and I. I let him have the heat sink!

My car feels hotter to the touch under the car that my brother with the heat sink. His heat sink gets really hot. The metal heat sink is a like wrapping a baked potato also.

The motor's going to make the same amount of heat (with the same usage) no matter what your heat sink is made of. Would you rather have all that heat right on the sink, which is specifically designed to deal with it, or would you rather it just stays right around the car's circuits?

Put the stock sink back on, they wouldn't have built it in if it was better to have something as simple as tin foil.

Why do you think they call it a "heat sink" if it wasnt suppose to be used to gather heat. And why do you think that a mulit-million dollar corporation (RS) would be stupid enough to add something to their product that would just screw it up?

Dude, You need to learn a little before postin stuff here, At least terying to make someone else feel wrong. At least learn to read a dicionary like maikeru did for you. Why do you think on an amp, or even a radiator has all those fins on it? To disapate heat.....I thought it was known by all. Guess not.

A radiator is nothing like the heat sink that come with RS motors.

The principal is the same....They both have fins of metal on them to disapate the heat that they collect. The heat sync on the xmod collects heat from the moter directly, A radiator collects heat from the water which is the conductor of the heat and then the fins, as well as the ones from the xmod disipates the heat acordingly. The aluminum foil does not work....... OHHHHHH never mind....some peoples children. AARRRGGGGHHHHH

I sudjest that you then wrap tin foil on your computer's CPU. See if it preforms the same. However if you smell a bunring smell unplug the computer.

Tinfoil is really thin, and cannot disipate heat as fast as an aluminum heatsink.

I don't know much about computers, but are the computers shell a heat sink?

dude, newbitowner, you are the most retarted perosn in this forum! the shell of the computer isn't the heat sink...open up the computer and look for somethig that is metal with metal fins on it...thats the heatsink. The reason the heat sink is hot is becvuase it is taking the heat away from the motor. That piece is supposed to be hot if its doing its job. the heatsink is hot so other parts aren't...do a little research before you start making post thinking you know stuff. You ask a physics professor...hell clear it up...till then, go read something:rolleyes:

Oh man, this is funny as H*** . Why would it be called a heat sink if it does not disspate heat? It hard to belive some ppl don't understand the basics of things...the vents allow air to cool the heat sink that has been gathering the heat from the motor so that the motor does not burn everything else!!!

So please, check it, and do some research on it before acusing ppl that they are wrong...please...

Actually the fins are to create a greater surface area and by doing that there is more material exposed to release heat from.

I agree that it it time to shut this one down. It has gone off the topic of actually talking about the mod itself and turned into a debate, and there is just no need for the arguing back and forth.
