Radio Shack just announced recall of Skylines

Confirm this on your own, but our local RatShack just told us that RadioShack HQ just sent a memo to the stores to take back the Skylines because of defects. This came after having our 5th Skyline defect in our group. Will get more detail when we visit store later today.

kasper01001 11-10-2003 10:05 AM

RS's site doesn't say anything about a defect, I'm goin 2 ratshack later today so i'll see

Viper966 11-10-2003 10:48 AM

mine works fine

4G63T 11-10-2003 11:35 AM

is this true?
so now they don't sell the skylines anymore?(right now like today)
:o

slugbugg 11-10-2003 01:48 PM

Last time I looked (a few hours ago) the skylines were still availible on the RS web site.

I really dont think the skylines are any different than the other Xmods so if they recall the skylines they will have to recall all xmods.
The Xmods are not that bad, RS just used some brittle plastic and the electronics are sensitive.

I'm still going to make a chassis but it will barely resemble an Xmod when I'm done and it looks like I'll have to try and make some axle parts.(maybe some suspension arms)

So then what does this mean to me? I have a prefect driving skyline.

linerate 11-10-2003 02:05 PM

Just got back from our local RS. The manager (who *might* have all her marbles) is saying that RadioShack is about to recall them. How she would know this, I have my doubts. But regardless, she is accepting them back with no questions now because of all the problems. Personally, I agree with others that all the XMODS are the same. Skylines just get more attention. I will keep taking them back as long as they keep offering returns.

When there working, the XMODS are just to fun to race against. Especially that first turn!

A.C. SUBY 11-10-2003 03:01 PM

what do they give you when you return it, another skyline?also will they not accept it if you painted a couple body parts

Bad Company 11-10-2003 03:03 PM

I have 3 Skylines, not one with a problem. Will they exchange them if painted? (Just in case.)

colin4371 11-10-2003 03:06 PM

my skyline sucks, and ive been driving it for a couple weeks now, i was wondering if theid still take it back with a few scratches in it here and there... i wonder if my radshack is recalling them. did they say if its gonna be a country wide thing?

They probably would take it back if its not too noticable. Staying on topic here, does that mean you have to return a working skyline?

Hudson5150 11-10-2003 03:40 PM

I had to return my first skyline because it had poor range. I got another one and it works fine. They gave me zero grief on the return even though it had scratches. When I returned it I put it back in the package just as if it were new. The next day I visited the same RS and they had the Skyline I returned on the shelf waiting for some other poor soul to buy. After informing RS of the defect the Skyline had they told me they would pull it off the shelf. Funny thing is I told RS when I returned it that it had the range problem. Bet it is still on the shelf now.

kasper01001 11-10-2003 05:45 PM

the Rs i went to nvr said anything about the recall,

guce 11-10-2003 05:56 PM

i have had no problems w/ my skyline except for my plastic axle braking(which i have found that only the skylines have and others have metal) but my range is good i can go about 30 yards out then it starts to fade out. and the only other thing is that it is REALLy loud when the motor is running.

viperkilla 11-10-2003 06:01 PM

Well, I just called my local radioshack a few minutes ago. They said they didnt get any information on the recalls.

4G63T 11-10-2003 06:37 PM

is this bs?
i mean like 5 people called and they told them they never got the information......

cj1267 11-10-2003 07:41 PM

There have been NO memo's in recalling Xmods. If there were a recall I'd announce it here and on the Xmods Yahoo Group.

Untill then THERE IS NO RECALL!!!

Xmods are like us. We have flaws in some of us and so do they. Nothing made by humans will be perfect.

airline2 11-10-2003 07:43 PM

so will there be one.

sessiz10 11-10-2003 09:35 PM

If cj says there's no recall, then there aint one. I think this kid or the RS manager he spoke to is full of the stinky stuff.

Lucid Dreams 11-10-2003 09:42 PM

my skyline works fine, except when i take it outside or somewhere like outside my steering gets jammed a little but thats only happen since i installed awd i guess some dirt gets up in the parts or somethin then i break the whole front end down an clean an it works fine

I'll have to disagree on this one. I've only seen 4 xmods and none of them have proven to have brittle plastic parts and the electronics have taken some pretty hard jolts as well and are still working fine.

slugbugg 11-10-2003 10:57 PM

Well, I guess if you havnt seen any problems with your Xmod then they dont exist!!!

I on the other hand have a practically new supra that has a cracked front bearing holder and a front spindle lower kingpin that has a crack running up it.This was not caused by rough driving or mishandling it is simply the plastic is to thin and/or brittle.

I am looking very closely at my supra parts since I'm using it to help me make a chassis.(it's torn down right now)

My RSX runs fine I havnt noticed any cracked/broken parts but it did have a steering problem after lightly hitting a carpeted cat toy.The steering stopped working altogether so I tore it down and fixed it, its fine now.

My RSX is set to run and only has a few mods
(body kit,AWD,bearings and a carbon fiber center shaft)

I wonder if I'll be able to make a diff for these out of aluminum some day.(I doubt it)

Do get me wrong I like the Xmods and I wont return mine even if they do recall them, which I doubt they will.

maybe you got an FMOD from china or somthing but mine was meatal in all 3 of my skylines, that malfuncitioned. and in both of my red supras

joeNuggetz 11-11-2003 10:31 AM

My skyline has the (BC EDIT: Word removed) range problem. I'd like to take it back too.

_revhards13 11-11-2003 10:59 AM

some radioshacks will, and some wont... some managers take them back no questions, and some dont take them at all , and some give you a Load of probs

colin4371 11-11-2003 04:48 PM

hmm... im greatly considering returning my skyline for a new one, i loved it when i got it, but now the suspensions all screwwed up, the ball diff is super sloppy, my car practically revs in neutral around turns, and now i have a wheelbase problem where my chassis wont fit togethter unless i make it too short to fit in the body. you think theil notice a missing mirror?

corysmith 11-11-2003 06:14 PM

the fax at my rs had noting in it this morning

Micro S2000 11-11-2003 07:25 PM

hey colin i think i know what your problem is. when you put the car back together did you put the back motor mount on backwards? it should angle toward the motor.

my first time taking the car apart i did this and realized it and fixed it

colin4371 11-11-2003 07:27 PM

i just completely repackaged my xmod, and im going to try to return it as soon as i can get to my local RS. maybe i can trade it in for a supra or an RSX

SkylineEvo 11-11-2003 09:12 PM

i think i have the range problem. but the only big problem is that i broke one of the side little mirrors and havn't super glued it bak on yet.... lol. i hope it will look fine when i do.

ive had to take back 4 defective Skylines and the stupid woman at RS told me it was fine because the store model had the same problem. the steering stutters between straight and all the way to one direction. the RSX at the store had the same problem so she told me it was fine. now i have to go to the mall to see if they have them. i'll call all of the RS' in the state if i have to. i will find who is taking them back! (laughs evily)

I dont know bc radio shack is prety picky when it come to rc's that are demented or painted, for instence i had my siver poursh zz and the screw hole wasnt there and the cover for the computer chip wasnt there ether so i whent to returned it and they didnt take it but what i did was drill a hole and put a real screw in and for the cover i just wraped it in electic tape

theMonster 11-12-2003 05:02 PM
