what is good that i can get at wal mart for painting? my nearest hobby store is 40 miles away, but i work across the street from wal mart, anybody?

Bad Company 10-31-2003 10:33 PM

I used to use the Dupli Color paints bought from Wal Mart on my Zips, but I don't have any experience using it on Xmods. A lot of people say they have had good results with Testors, which can be bought there too.

I would suggest laying down a coat of primer before applying the color coat, it will help the paint stick better, and hide MINOR imperfections.

does the hobby paint co there have primer? Testors?

Bad Company 10-31-2003 11:33 PM

Most everywhere you find spray paint, you will find primer.

I would have to agree with the others. Testors is a great brand of paint from Wal-mart. I use the spray paint.

Make sure you prime it before you use testors paint tho. It will just slide right off the surface plastic if you don't.

Char-g Ace 11-02-2003 04:11 PM

I use krylon. It works great and dries in 15 minutes. I havent had a problem yet since i started using krylon

aero528 11-11-2003 04:38 PM

i think i found my prob. i try to put the paint on in one coat and i dont prime. with my new airbrush i will try to be more paient.

Lordnukem 11-11-2003 07:52 PM

Painting

I have used dupli color, and krylon with great results.. I have even used the dupli color chameleon on my 1/10 th r/c's
Testors is a great brand but doesn't hold up as well when impacted. I had the whole front end come off of a slot car, looked like I lost the front clip on a countach.. HO scale..
If your paint is wrinkling up then you have a lacquer based paint going over enamel or arcylic paint,, this never works.. sand or strip your xmod body down to the bare plastic.. then paint with the lacquer, also known as R/c paint not the new acrylic stuff the old type paint was lacquer based to stick to the lexan bodies better and allowed flex... :D

it was accualy on my zip se, but i was using some random red and puting krilonsilver on it. thanks. i wont do that again.:D (it was so annoying when you prepare for all this and then your paint looks like crap when it comes out!:( )

major skyline 11-12-2003 12:45 PM

I would recomend using the $20 airbrush kit from wal-mart cause then u can use any model paint. thats what i did on my silver skyline and my black supra

aero528 11-12-2003 03:20 PM

i am useing a better quality(but not pro quility) $26 airbrush from michels arts and crafts. it cost me only $13 because i had a cupon. yet to see if it works any better. look at "my flaming skiline" thread in gallery if you want to cheack up on my project.

CommanderMcBrid 11-14-2003 01:04 AM

Honestly, you're not going to get really good results out of any cheap airbrush. I personallt wasn't getting great stuff until I moved up to my Iwata Eclipse HP-BCS, which was about $125.00. Plus, the cheap airbrush kits come with canned air, which is pretty useless, as it loses pressure as it is used up, making it impossible to get consistent results.
