Disc Brakes Mod
1 Attachment(s)
Using the brakes/calipers that came with the XS Tuning wheels I put on my RSX, I used them to install on my Gunmetal Skyline. I shaved the backs of them down flat. I drill the center holes out a little larger than the axle pins to allow them to rotate thru the brakes.I then painted the calipers red. I glued them to outer edge of bearing housings, not to interfere with the bearings. This allows the calipers to stay stationary when the wheels are rotating.
The brakes have a center cup that the wheels fit very nicely into. Adding these only pushed my wheels out less than a 1/16" and still left plenty of thread to mount the wheels. Pic without wheels... |

WOW thats a great idea, i was thinking of doing this also... it was actually one of my first ideas i just never really knew how to do it correctly. Good job!
|
nice job but the red doesnt reall stand out so it's kinda hard to see with the wheel on. maybe try a different colour? btw do the brakes come with the rims set or what? i dont have my xmod or accesories yet so i dont know.
|
looks very nice. so does the disk spin with the wheel? how would it look if you painted the disk chrome?
|
That's one of the best home spun mods I've seen so far. Where did those come from again?
|
Here is more info where I did the wheel mod...

thats sweet man real clean job too.
|
so is the hole in the caliper big enough for the outer wheel bearing to come out?
i think these mods are awesome and im attempting some - my skyline will be metallic blue (tested on stock body side molding to see what color would be like - awesome!) since i HATE YELLOW!!! and i found the xs rims at my LHS - but i wont be using the wheels (didnt really like the design) but the tires look awesome - might use for static display (or contours competitions) since they seem a little hard i thought about wiring up one more red LED and putting it in the exhaust pipe for a realistic exhaust glow - or at least getting a big bore exhaust tip for that true ricer look - might try to imitate one of those titanium welded mufflers with a blue sharpie |
The holes in the discs are only slightly larger than the axle/pin to run thru. The brakes are glued to the outer part of the bearing housing. The wheels fit right into the little cup on the discs. I tighten the wheels and lugnuts not quite completely tight, but enough that there is no wobble. The brakes stay in place when the axles and wheels spin.
You have to use the "shallow" discs from the XS Tuning Kit, and shave the backside of the discs flat. Then drill out the centers slightly larger than the axle/pins. |
so you cant change the bushing/bearings? hmm

I made the hole in the center of my brakes large enough to go OVER the bearing hub...and glued them to the outside of it...allowing bearing removal and not spacing the wheels out at all!!! you should try it...lot better!

Disc Brakes Mod
Howdy,
I also did a brake rotor mod to my Skyline. I used sheet lexan to make them out of. I traced the outline of a AA batt to get the right size. I'm not totally done with them yet. I only have two made at this time but am going to remake some new ones with calipers. Just made these ones really quickly the other night. Here are a few pics. http://www.jbnets.net/TTT/XMods/Skyline005.jpg http://www.jbnets.net/TTT/XMods/Skyline006.jpg They are a little hard to see but they are there. I will post other pics when I get the new ones done. You can see more pics on my site and my forum. Later Easymoney |
yo sup im not quite following bc i have no idea of the meaning backside
|
ok the brake pads look all tight and all but what kind of screw did u put on it doesnt look like the standard one that comes with the car
|
i don't think they're supposed to look like stock disc brakes.

The metal locknuts (hint: name being LOCKNUT) have a plastic insert that keeps them from backing off.
|
Where did you get the disc brakes from? Thanks.
|
