how does the speed in terns of RPM and motor wire turns of the x-mod motors compare to a x-speed? I want to put an x-speed in my car if its fasted / better then then stage 2. I mean all they sell you is the same motor with different pinion sizes correct?

There is a difference between stage 1 and stage 2, it's just that no one is exactly sure what the difference is. I say go for it, put your X-speed in and tell us what differences there are if any.

I know the x-speed works but I just need to buy a pinion remover.

the dif between the motors is 4k RPM

Stage 1 motor, 26k
Stage 2 motor, 30k
X Speed motor, ~35k

Estimating the speed difference by ear, the X Speed motor sounds faster than the Stage 2 motor by about the same amount that the Stage 2 is faster than Stage 1.

One of my friends has successfully installed an X Speed in his XMods car, I am working on doing the same. The pinion gear has been giving me trouble, though. I tried to use the one from the stock motor, but I can't get it off. Well, at least the motor is destroyed now.. :rolleyes:

Get an Xspeed from tower hobbies. And use a slot car pinion puller to remove those bothersome brass pinions.

Picked up a pinion puller and got it done. I can't say what kind of top speeds I'll see as I don't have enough room inside to really open it up. I used the 8 tooth pinion on the X Speed motor as I figured it wouldn't have alot of torque.

What I [i]really[i] want is a motor with ball bearings. Al the good motors for 1/10 scale and 1/12 scale use them, so it's only a matter of time before they are available for us.

Yes, it definitely is faster. What I really want is a ball bearing motor can with rare earth magnets though.

I hate to burst your bubbles, guys, but any of those after market motors are nowhere near 30,000. Nowhere near.

There are reasons why the torque is not there, etc. etc. which is why I'm coming out with stage 10.

I'm just going by what they say on the label. You're probably right though... the stocker's probably like 15k, with the others being like 17k and 20k... :lol:

So you are saying that a stage 2 @ 35K is better than an x-speed? speed and torque wise?

err guys the 30k rpm is just the motor itself. if u attach gears to it, it slows down dramatically unless ur gears give you a 1:1 ratio in which case the car would probably not move cuz of the lack of torque. i think the lowest gear ratio for the stage 2 is 4.33:1 whici means it's like 30k rpm divided by 4.33 which gives u around only like 7k of rpm. it's the same thing as bit char-g's they dont actually get 42k rpm from a 4.2 motor.

Be careful though, you may soon find yourself playing with Mini-Z's more than your Xmod. Before you know it, you'll be like me!

I started with F1 Mini-Z's, progressed to regular Mini-Z's, upgraded to the Micro RS4, then had fun with an ABC DTM X4, Bit Char-g's, Microsizers, and Zip Zaps. Then I got a Traxxas T-maxx and now I'm just waiting for Team Losi's Mini-T and the Mini-Z Monster. Even more exited about David Palacio and PTI Racing's Micro Monster. Man, there isn't enough money in the world for my hobbies!

that sounds like alot of people from mini-zracer;)

if your looking to experiment with motors, do some research on mini-zracer.com and try some of the mini-z upgrade motors. there are many to choose from.

bottom line, nml motors will be the fastest but it comes with a hefty price tag (for mini-z's anyway) so before you go throwing money around, do some research. an educated consumer is the best consumer. for most of us with a limited budget, there are i'm sure plenty of good options.

btw nml, nice to see you taking xmods to the next level too. i'm sure it's only a matter of time befroe you have something similar to fuzion for xmod's
