SE Drift

i have noticed with my savana that the se's drift exeptionaly well with slicks on...........anyone else find this? ill have to post a clip of mine doing that..........

:D :D :D

Murcielago659 10-15-2003 12:07 AM

Yeah, mine drifts, but it's a little hard to control. I guess I'll just have to practice a little more.

jbach39 10-15-2003 01:46 AM

how are you getting them to drift> (I assume by drifting you mean sliding sideways ina turn?)
mine never do using a 3.4 ZZ motor, in my Mustang Concept se

John

Comrade_Boris 10-15-2003 03:14 PM

ill try to get the clip up today or tomorow..........ill also show you a clip of my microsizer vs. my rallyX zz civic.....

Murcielago659 10-15-2003 07:02 PM

I put stock tires on the rear and slicks in the front and it seems to just slide forever, that is until it spins around. It just doesn't seem to react quickly enough for me. More practice is in order I guess.

Comrade_Boris 10-16-2003 06:38 PM

i have found that with slicks all around a quick right turn folowed with a fraction of a second of reverse + a fraction of a second of left wheel produces a nice drift..........and i thought my old zz could drift, my se kills it if a drift off!

Murcielago659 10-16-2003 11:57 PM

Wow, that's a lot to do so fast :D I think I need to get some griptape to put on my wheel because when I try to do quick stuff like that my fingers slip.

BC EDIT: You cannot post links to said site.

nitrousmaniac 01-12-2004 08:52 PM

AAAAh it doesnt work for me.
can u drift in real life? (asking shift_drift), is it hard?

SHIFT_DRIFT 01-18-2004 11:47 PM

1sr whadaya drive?
in my car it's not really helpful for it to drift. (stupid FF!)

97PrizmLsi 01-19-2004 12:09 AM

I can drift in my prizm....well its more like a controlled e-brake turn and I can't do it in series or anything because its front wheel drive. i only do it in a controlled area like a parking lot. I only wish I could hit it like the JUN Supra..

nitrousmaniac 01-19-2004 02:41 PM

i dont have a car yet but lets say with your average compact?

97PrizmLsi 01-19-2004 02:45 PM

It's dangerous and impossible to hit sequential drifts with a front* wheel drive car. My recommendation is that you shouldn't do it unless you own your own car and can pay for new tires every other month. It's fun but not really worth it if you wrap ur car around a telephone pole or flip. ( i know a kid who flipped his accord because he hit the ebrake at too high a speed )

nitrousmaniac 01-19-2004 03:00 PM

so tell me what happens during the events of the drift

97PrizmLsi 01-19-2004 03:08 PM

you start making a turn and as soon as your nose is pointing towards the turn you rip the ebrake and the tail will rotate around the nose of the car and the back tires will drag (e-brake turn i call it)
I have never done Initial D style drifting, but if you really want to see real life drifting search for the "best motoring" website and find clips of drifting or buy initial D videos and watch them.

nitrousmaniac 01-19-2004 03:24 PM

i thought u had to shift to low gear and as soon as your nose is facing the turn completely you turn the steering wheel the direction you want to go? lol. dont make fun

SHIFT_DRIFT 01-19-2004 08:44 PM

drifting is just another techniqe to go through a turn @ higher speeds.
my FF Celica drifting is not really a good thong to do cause it actually slows down the car because of rear friction. it looks awfully nice though. race drifting was ment to be done w/ FR
MR and AWD

97PrizmLsi 01-20-2004 07:33 PM

You need to break traction, a downshift will do that.
Shift, I love that quote in your profile.

I made this for the cover of my note book. All credit to shift_drift, i just punctuated better. For some reason the background on the text doesn't show up..there are assymetrical drop shadows that form with the gears.

SHIFT_DRIFT 01-21-2004 04:32 PM

TY:D
i made it up my_slf
anyway Nitrous,
drifting is more of a fluid motion.
look in a dictionary
"drift" truly describes sliding through a turn SIDEWAYS.

97PrizmLsi 01-21-2004 07:12 PM

Nitrous..try www.willraceforfood.com ..i think that was the site's url. Those guys are drift crazy and there are vids of all sorts of drifting. The "drift king" even lays out the basic disciplines of racing in a series of articles.

i thought celicas were front wheel? how do u drift with those?!?

how do u drift in a freakin parking lot without getting caught?
it's too bad there aren't free use drifting tracks like they do in tokyo

Thanks!

97PrizmLsi 01-23-2004 04:10 PM

Church parking lots are generally empty on weeknights...Drifting practice in a filled parking lot is not recommended. Every day on my way home I hit some turns really hard and can get half drifts on them..I have been too prudent to try an all out drift. The roads are empty all the time and the turns are gradual...its a winding road in a place where city cops have no jurisdiction..only the county police (ran by the sheriff) have jurisdiction, which are never there..

nitrousmaniac 01-23-2004 04:13 PM

lol

cheesehead 01-24-2004 08:33 PM

How do you drift, anyway?

charliebrown 01-24-2004 08:44 PM

I'm amazed you guys can do any drifting with the SE unless you smooth a thin layer of baby powder on the floor, or if the floor is dusty. I used the slicks all around, and the car has a lot more weight, so it flips a lot. I can't slide it, the weight keeps it down, and with the bodies sitting high on the chassis and low ground clearance, I can't pull off a drift. I wonder how you guys do it. These things have good grip and traction, but such low speeds. What a shame....

Chuckster...

hey prizm, i noticed that watching the videos, hubert or w/e his name is never touched the hand brake or the shift knob. he did it all with the steering wheel.

97PrizmLsi 01-25-2004 09:58 AM

Yah...there are many types of drifting. He uses foot brake and and pedal and steering wheel and thats it. You need to learn how to heel-and-toe to do that though..I am still trying. I got some racing pedals for Xmas and still haven't installed them. I probably will today so I can do it.

nitrousmaniac 01-26-2004 07:03 PM

when i get a car i wanna learn how to drift with the heel thingy technique.

97PrizmLsi 01-26-2004 07:21 PM

Ok...if you are seriously interested in drifting..when your parents ask you what you would like for your first car..say either
1995ish 240SX
1991+ Toyota MR2 turbo or non turbo, doesn't matter
late 80s, early 90s supra
late 80s early 90s RX7

or if they really love you
1994ish 300ZX
1994ish 3000GT
1993 and up RX7

REMEMBER: MANUAL TRANSMISSION

or an older import like a corolla SR5 or possibly AE86 Corolla GTS but they are impossible to find in good condition.
Unless your parents are into the whole car scene already they won't be very supportive of your choices or what you want to do with the car, so be open and tell them you would like to take it to the race track, because sneaking around is fun, but you will get caught. Drifting isn't for a busy street. And do your homework on cars. That is all the advice I can offer.

SHIFT_DRIFT 01-26-2004 07:30 PM

GTOs (3000GT) are too heavy
i dunno bout the FF ver though still looks very bulky

nitrousmaniac 01-26-2004 07:34 PM

ahhhhaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahashahahahaha hahahahahahahahahah

i doubt getting any of those cars lol. maybe when im 30 then cuz im not rich lol
