Zip Zaps 1/43 clone?
 

I found these at TRU today. They are designed almost exactly like the Zip Zaps, but are bigger and instead of slots, the bodies just press fit over the chassis. They even have the same interchangable hubcaps. You can buy the motor and gear upgrades, and also extra bodies. The bodies are really nicely detailed too. They have Mini's, EVO 8's, Stangs, and others and in different colors.

Here are some other notes:
You can get 14,000, 19,000, and 22,000 motors.
You can get 6.28:1, 5.25:1, and 4.4:1 gears.
Different tire treads.
On/off switch on controller and car.
Motorized steering, no propo. though.

Car handles really good and has decent speed with 22,000 motor.

What do i say.........? On one hand the bodies are gorgeous (which is what i wish RS would upgrade in regards to the ZZ product of all things) but do i neccesarily NEED a bigger ZZ? Wouldnt that be the equivalent of the Canned Heat or cars of that ilk? 1:43...size of the epoch and RS Vette'.... you would think with that much room available they would have slammed something else ( i.e. features) in the car.

All in all....beautiful cars and it looks as though they are of good quality ( look at the size of that contact!) that , had they been released prior to Zip Zaps / Bits i might have greedily picked up. With th on set of XMODS (propo 1/43) though i think TRU missed their window of opportunity.

Ahh$hit....how does it handle on carpet? Room inside for the triple quadruple intel celeron mod? 22,000 rpms...hmmmm?

Well, I picked these up out of curiosity more than anything. I liked how much they resembled the Zip Zaps and wanted to try to do some body mods until the SE's come out. The kits are $19.99, the body sets are $5.99, and the tune-up kits are $7.99. I might pick up some of the other bodies to do some modding, but that will be the extent of my purchases as a ll my money is going towards SE's. The car handles better on the carpet than on the kitchen floor where it tends to hop in the front end. The only downfall of the handling is it has a wide turning radius. These are nice just for the fact of having bigger Zip like bodies to mod and play around with.

BTW: Charge is 45 seconds and I have run it 20 minutes so far with no sign of giving out yet.

They look ok but they could have atleast had some kind of suspension, geesh there is none.

They might be better for parts than anything else.

lets see:2 batteries(120mah-nimh), a geared steering system, different drive gears that mesh with bit/ZZ gears, tires that are only slightly bigger than a bits/ZZ.

I was wondering if one of those motors could solve some peoples rally course torque problems, it would take some modding but it might fit in a bit/ZZ. lol

what in the world are those three strips of metal in the pcb cover?

Has anyone noticed who makes these cars yet? this is the first time I have ever seen that.

looks pretty cool, how big are those motors? if you didnt say that they were 1/43 scale i wouldv'e thought they were just a hair bigger than zips. any pics next to a zz or bit?

I haven't figured out what the strips are yet, but they stick thru the PCB cover for some reason. The wheels are just a hair bigger, so you can't just swap them out with Zip hubcaps without some modification. The motors are way bigger than the Zip motors...

OK, I got brave and pulled the insides apart. Here is what I found...

did you notice that the steering motor is bit sized.

What're those strips on the pcb cover wired to?

They are just wired to the back of the PCB. I'm not an electronics whiz, so I can't tell you what they are wired to. It's wierd how they are just enbedded in the cover and don't appear to touch or do anything. They do stick thru as if something would possibly connect to the cover?

That Viper is great looking, I may have to just check these things out.:D

There is also a black and a blue Viper.
The bodies I saw include:
Red Mustang, white Mustang, black Mustang.
Red Viper, Black Viper, Blue Viper.
Silver Z, orange Z, blue Z.
Yellow EVO 8, white EVO 8.
Red Mini, black/silver Mini.
Blue Skyline, green Skyline.

It's possible that those strips have something to do with range. I'm no electronics whiz either :D

They look 1/64.

You know after looking closly at those strips and where they attach to the PCB I see letters where the wires attach.
The black is LG, the white is LL, and the pink is LR....Hmmm... I was wondering if they are for lights.

(maybe-LG=light ground/LL=light left/LR=light right-it doesnt make sense to me)

I dont know what they do but there is power running through them, I layed a bit motor down on the black wired strip and put a screw driver across the contact on the motor endbell and touched the white wired strip and the motor fired up.There is power when the car is turned on, apparently the strips are NOT controlled by the controller.

Maybe some kind of upgrade later on? The website says something about them being revolutionary or something, but they may not mean anything. Hmmm....

would it make the steering better if you switched the sterering moter.

That is actually the on/off switch and charging jack.

You know, I was actually thinking about that to. I might try it after work today.

When I was in TRU the other day and picked mine up, it appeared that they just put them out. The whole shelf was full of these things.

I went to tru today and like ahh5hit up there The shelves were stocked full, maybe 30 cars. I spent a total of one minute looking at these cars and then walked out the store mumbling to myself. RS better get them ses out to me quick.:(
They do look cool, but for their size I would want more.

these look pretty cool. those strips on top make me want to get one....still not positive what they are for, but i agree with the idea they are for lights...do you have a voltmeter to test those strips? i would guess the black wire is ground and there will be voltages on the other strips. what would be enlightening is to see what those voltages are and when they occur...like one has voltage only when the car is going forward...or if the voltages reverse polarity when switching directions....that would tell us a lot about what they are for and how we can use them for mods.

I didnt have my meter handy when I was checking those strips out but it does need further investigation.I'll have the do more checking before I mod mine into oblivion.

My meter is at work, so I will have to bring it home to check it out. But I agree, it does have me kinda baffled.

I'm impressed by their performance. I just have the stock starter kit (blue Mini), but the car flies with the 14,000 rpm motor! I need to get the 22,000 rpm motor... ;)
And like you said, the bodies have great detail.
I like the pistol grip controller too. Really good range (9V in the transmitter helps!).

There's a clue to possibly more body styles coming!

Can you please show a picture of the blue Mini that you just got? Because I am looking to buy that one so I cam finally have a model of my dads car!

If/When that Impreza comes out, I'll have to get one!

Can someone please measure the side to side wheelbase of these? It needs to be under 1 1/2" to fit on the X-trek track.

I bought the Blue and the Red Mini Cooper S, very cool. Even without the tune up kit its faster than my ZZ's. With the 22Krpm motor its so fast.
Has anyone seen a white version of the Mini?

I think the strips must be for lights.
