WOW

very very very nice, iv never seen someone put the led there. cool man

flatlander_14 06-25-2003 10:41 PM

thanks for the nice comments audi-tt:D

i drilled a hole in the chassis with my dremmel just enough so the led pops the end of it out.it works very well. it is rated at 3.7v, and i am only using 3v, i cant imagine at anything higher, SUPER BRIGHT!!!:D

charliebrown 06-25-2003 11:14 PM

WOW WOW WOW WOW!!!!!! And it looks such a hot car too, with the complementary color. It goes great with that Skyline!!! Keep up the great work, flatie!

Awesome! Very, Very nice! I actually tried this once on a messed up chassis, but the LED I used didn't disperse the light nowhere as good as that. It looked like crap so I canned the idea. My hole was more toward the center of the car, and the LED hit on the PCB board components. I've been looking for the right LED, but you DID beat me to it. Save me some of those for when I come down. I will have to go your route. I have also been looking into small fiberoptics with some of the electricians at my work to get a nice even glow all away around the body. Again, Kudos to you. That is one of the, if not the best underglow I've seen!

Where did you get the LED and what other colors are there?

flatlander_14 06-26-2003 08:06 AM

i got that led from radioshack, sorry i only got 1 lol. those things add up haha. the blue led i got was like $4 and the battery is $4 also. im going to pick up an assorted LED kit from radioshack when i get the chance. it has like 8 or something LEDS, they are all green and red and one yellow. no blue, but we'll figure out something dope for our cars:D i wonder how the blue would look under the tp cruiser, there would be much more space for all the crap to fit:D and for the car we are going to mod from stock, i think since we are also shooting for performance we should leave out this mod, but ill still do a how to just on your car or something. lol. that alright with you? my mom went about anal when she found out i wanted to buy yet another zip so i gave up and went to radioshack and bought all these goodies. i should have a good amount of money after i get my paycheck or something. since radioshack is right down the road from my house, you want to come and choose the car we use with me? i have $9 left over from last night, all i gotta do is sneak some cash away each day that i normally use for snacks and stuff at work so ill have the car by the time you get here. ill just go to RS and buy it without my parents knowing. i have enough cars, they'll never be the wiser that i get another:D

Queso 06-26-2003 09:01 AM

::loving the attention:::D :rolleyes:

TypeZer0 06-26-2003 01:26 PM

yeh glow is beautiful, it's nice adn pretty even all around. only wished teh radioshacks in my area didn't stop stocking the blue led's....hell they even took it off their website....stupid rat shack. the only other electronics store that woudl sell bright blue led's is like a 30 minute drive from here cuz the yellow pages website wont decipher for me whihc business is a store and wish is a warehouse distributor

flatlander_14 06-26-2003 02:47 PM

if you ever order the laymans cells from all electronics, then get some leds from there while you're at it.

Ferreck 06-26-2003 06:42 PM

wut kind of led wus that? just wondering...im asking u about everything now lol :D hope u dont mind ;)

i was figuring that since im picking up those batts (with $6 dollars shipping i mite add  ) i decided to pick 1 up

heh, im not too good at these things :D lol

I've got a good car in the works  ill post pics here when im finished :D its a German 911 black porsche  im hoping to get it to wheelie with all this torque and weight im adding to the back...anyway the result shud be really nice :D ;)

faulkbeets 06-26-2003 06:54 PM

ME WANT LIGHTS!!!

Ferreck 06-26-2003 07:12 PM

ill feel stupid now...:( im realising that my cars gonna look alot like urs and ur not replying bcuz of that (i think)

flatlander_14 06-26-2003 08:06 PM

lol, im flattered that i inspired you:D

(you know i DO have a life outside of micros you know;))

actually i was out running around because the bank screwed something up and that needed fixed. and i had to go to walmart. and mcdonalds:D for ONCE they didnt screw up my order so this is a good day:)

as for the LED, it is a blue(obviously) 2600mcd, 3.7v typical, 4.5v max, 20mA, 5mm LED. if you do it the same way as i did, you may have a hard time fitting the porsche on the chassis. try the pt if this is your first time, it is a nice car, purple and that teal greenish that they came in look great with a blue under glow. i used a CR2032 lithium battery. if you want to fit smaller bodies on there and more easily, then get a smaller battery. anything that is 3v will do good.

Ferreck 06-26-2003 08:15 PM

u can turn the lite off rite? sorry im not to great at this electrical stuff as u can c...:D lol if u cant turn them off r they recharcable? if they r u must have to hook them up to the otha batts...

flatlander_14 06-26-2003 08:44 PM

no they arent rechargable, but lithium batteries last a long time and the current drain on these leds is really low(20mA). meaning if it was running on a tomy 200mah battery for example, i would last about 10 hours non stop. you turn them off by disconnecting the battery. you CAN attach it to the regular battery by just fitting the led arms on each ends of the battery, but it would just drain that faster and with the LED i used, its typical required voltage is 3.7, so im already pushing it with only 3v, in a stock car it only uses a 1.2v. my car has 3.6v but it would cut my runtime in half because it drains at 20ma, my batteries are 40mahs so i would see much shorter runtimes.

Ferreck 06-26-2003 08:55 PM

do u hav to solder it? if u do, how r u supposed to disconnect it?

flatlander_14 06-26-2003 08:59 PM

you dont solder it to the batteries. i just use wire and tape the wires in place. i find that putting some aluminum foil ont he end of the wire and wrapping the wire up in that and then flattening it witha set of vise grips will get a better connection because it isnt as easy to break loose.

Ferreck 06-26-2003 09:02 PM

i wonder if i cud fit 2 leds in there...i doubt it...u wud kno, cud i?

the minimum u can buy on www.allelectronics.com is 10, so i need to do sumthin wit dem...

o yeah is there anythin else i can get on www.allelectronics.com?

1 NMH BATTERY PACK, 7.2V 40MAH

10 MINI GREEN LEDs

1 LITHIUM BACK-UP BATTERY, 3.5V 1AH

Ferreck 06-26-2003 09:24 PM

where r u now flatlander, at wendys? :p

flatlander_14 06-27-2003 01:03 PM

no, work....

and just got back from burger king:D

you could try and fit 2 leds in there, but its not necessary. green will be much brighter than blue because blue and white are the 2 most voltage sucking colors there are. green will be mad bright as it is with only one. hold on to them and use them as back up... other wise send the extras to 1205 madras ct......;) and get more than one nimh pack. order 4 to be safe. i ordered 4 and im almost done with them. you should replace the batteries every 3 monts or so because they lose their punch.
