I wouldn't of helped you a few weeks ago but I'm on a mission to upgrade from Tiny RC Village Idiot to Tiny RC Scrap-Dog Professor (Don't ask)

Try epoxcy (sp?) you can also try glueing it in & working the glue a little bit so it spins just fine but stays in. My bud had this prob & we didn't have epoxcy to fix it. We didn't try the glue but o-well

Good Luck

All I do is slip a little piece of a match into the slot below the motor (on the underside of the car) and it holds it in there quite good.

Demon666 04-18-2003 09:32 PM

yeah i have epoxy here at the house but i want somone who's used it to answer and tell me how they did it and i also read about using a small tube and putting the axel in the tube and it worked i want to try this tube mod but i need to know where they got the tube from and what size it is im off to the hardwearstore now with my axel to see if they sell the size tube i need im thinking if the tube is the right size the car will be alot faster and quieter also, becouse ill be able to use some kind of lube in the tube hehe rimes. the epoxy will be my choice if i cant find the tube i need and i also found a thread where "kingofjapan" used a ball bearing on both sides ot the axel this mod sounds sick but i dont know where to find the bearings and i dont buy online i dont have acces to a credit card.

Ok, I can see it now. :p

what i did was take part of a match and slide through an opening in the center near the axle as described in the pic. make sure the match goes over the axle, not under it. so far it works very well. the match is stiff enough to hold the axle so the gears touch, yet not rough to the point where the axle won't spin at all. heres a pic

i tried the match thing and it made the axle not turn are you guys using cardboard matches or wood?

Wooden ones wouldn't fit, they are too thick. I use the cardboard matches, and besides, even if you DID use wood, you would want to be able to bend it down a little, because they match puts too much friction on the axle, and slows the car down. Cardboard matches are the way to go!:D

Demon666 04-21-2003 02:31 AM

ok i know everyone is gonna want a pic of what i finnaly came up with but i dont have a digi cam or a scanner or a way of drawing a pic so ill explane it the best i can. i tried the match thing and the damn axle sticks maybe my matches are to thick or somthing so i was digging around the garage today and i found a plastic tube perfect size of the axle and i cut a piece to fit where the axle goes in. i took one of the back wheels off and slide the tube on the axle then put the wheel back on and poped the tube in the chassie now the axle fits tighter then stock and its quiter and if you can find the right size tube to use you can put some baby powder or do what i did i used wax from a candle and the car is so damn fast alot faster than before and quieter too. thanks for everone's help on this problem i had mabe ill try the epoxy thing on my duell cell when that axle gets loose but so far so good.

hogjowlz 04-21-2003 10:53 AM

or you can epoxy your axle into the chassis. this is a permanent solution and will not cause added friction. if done right it will reduce friction. search on "epoxy rear axle"

CaboWabo 04-21-2003 12:30 PM

I looked at the topic, I saw the last person to reply (hogjowlz), and I knew that I was going to read about "epoxy", "JB Weld", and/or the rear axle LOL

I swear he's a marketing type sales person for JB Weld:D

seriously though, I do plan on trying it someday...
he might be a retarded stunt driver, but every now and then he nails it... just like with the "franks and beans" :p

Is that why you changed your avatar... to try and impress me?

no I will not go out with you... sheeeze!

xatu 04-21-2003 05:00 PM

Demon666-- That is why you need to bend the match piece a little. Then it will fit perfectly.

micro_Amps 04-22-2003 08:00 AM

I know you guys will want to see a pic of this and I am endeavoring to get webspace setup but....
I have a twin internal cell bit that is about 12 months old and has done heaps and heaps of miles and too many rear axel changes. When the rear axel stopped meshing when turning around corners I needed to come up with an idea that will keep the axel in place and still let me change the gear ratios every once in a while. This is what I did.
I got a strip of thin sheet metal about 5mm (1/4") wide and 8mm long and drilled a 2.5mm hole near one end. If you turn the car over, at the back under the motor are two holes in the plastic chassis. I shaped and trimmed the strip of metal so that when I put it up against the chassis it just touched the axel and the hole in the strip was over the hole in the chassis. Then I used a 2.5mm thread screw, 2mm long, and fastened the strip to the chassis. The ground clearance is fine and the axel meshes all the time now, I can even back-off the screw and swap axels if I want to. The chassis might even get a second one of these strips if the other side wears out too. These might even double as auto charger contacts that are mentioned in other strings on this site.
I hope from this you can work out how I fixed my axel slakness problem
:) uA

xatu 04-22-2003 12:29 PM

I think I've got a semit clear vision of what you did... And if it is, it looks pretty dam cool :D Buuut...... what we really need is pics :D I can host em on my site if you want....

bwsk8 04-22-2003 02:24 PM

I used jb weld and it worked excelent. just but a little bit in the center of the axcel only wait about 4 hours spin it loose then wait another 3 hours and it will work great.

hogjowlz 04-22-2003 03:21 PM

and it only get better after a few days of breaking in.

micro_Amps 04-22-2003 05:08 PM

Thanks Xatu, but I should be up and running in a few hours (hopefully). If all goes well I will post the pics so you can see properly what I am on about.

Loose axel repair solution

OK, this is how I fixed the loose axel problem on my fave bit.
This is how the clip looks when it is drilled and bent into the right shape.

http://www.prahranpianos.com/bit_g/m...xel%20clip.jpg

This is how it is when screwed onto the bottom of the chassis into one of those holes under the motor. It is setup so that the axel has just a tiny amount of movement, and doesnt drag on the axel.

http://www.prahranpianos.com/bit_g/m...in%20place.jpg

This is the ground clearance. No change to the clearance as it is a very thin steel strip.
http://www.prahranpianos.com/bit_g/m...0clearance.jpg

For those of you wondering what kind of car this was done on, it is an original Tomy Bit Char-g, modded to be a twin internal cell. The car pcb was flipped over and the cover drilled to allow the components to stick out. Turned out ok dont you think?

http://www.prahranpianos.com/bit_g/m...cover%20on.jpg

And thats it
:) uA

xatu 04-23-2003 09:21 PM

Nice job! That looks better than what I had imagined :)

bwsk8 04-24-2003 01:59 PM

looks nice, do you have a pic of under the pcb.

hogjowlz 04-24-2003 02:01 PM

looks nice but does it cause extra friction?

micro_Amps 04-24-2003 10:28 PM

Hogjowlz, it doesnt cause any friction because it doesnt actually touch the axel, it is bent so that it is just clear. The only time it would touch the axel is when its turning a corner and my axels are lubed just a touch with Tamiya ceramic grease so they are really slippery anyway.

bwsk8, sorry I dont have a pic under the pcb, but it is 2 x 150mAh 1.2v cells laying accross the chassis. The inside was dremmeled out a bit to allow the cells to fit. Its not unlike other internal twin cell bits.

:) uA

cowfish_29 04-30-2003 07:13 PM

what do you charge your dual cell with? for how long?
