ok went to zellers and toys r us, don't go to toys r us they're $20.00, but at zellers and from what i have heard walmart are $10.00 i bought the RPM one there are lots left of all of them, I put the orange tires and the motor on the clone and man it goes fast it. it goes as fast on carpet as the old stock one did on lino. im impressed! I haven't put the gears on it yet because i need to modify the axle to fit the clone and i'm having too much fun with the old stock motor in the kit racer for now. anyways some day i will part with it all together and take the battery and axle/gears. For $10.00 you can't go wrong get the RPM, swap parts and you'll notice an enormous difference.

does the KPH/MPH kit racer have a faster motor than the RPM?

i hear the orange tires help a lot.... and the RPM and MPH both have the same motor, just that they have Very different gearings... it's like (on bits) blue vs teal...

ok a quick idea about the spring buy a clone and use it's you could use it also for emergency parts like the battery and a (sigh)motor anyhooo i just fixed the axle on the kit in the time it took you to type that post hehehe couldn't wait to make it go FAST so i will have to try this thing out and see if i can notice an improvement

this has a great top speed but the acceleration sucks so now i have an accel gearset and a top speet gearset so it depends what kind of race i am doing

heh, a clone.. that's actually a really good idea... but i wanna get a KIT racer... but then again i want another steering spring... ! ahhh! have you found any cheap clones with fast motors in them? the cheapest i can find is $25 @ london drugs...

hmmmm i Think the RPM gears are much like the blue gears for bits... mass torque, but little top speed... it should run great in super thick pile carpet tho :D

heh, yeah... it's a good deal, those clones... if you break them, you can jack the parts and use them for your *best* car... i have yet to get anything other than my bit... but in a week or so im gonna go down to zellers and get that KIT racer... if i havent fixed my steering by then, well maybe even a clone to tear apart..

my friend just bought they project D set from WEM at commex hobbie yesterday, and today he bought drift tires....what a guy...haha. i only have a clone too and no BCG,,,haha so im with pig. and i also have the tunder fighter. omg i cant wait till i get money!!!!!

I believe dabigpig went to Red Deer to get the KIT Racer at Zellers. Looks like 3 of us on this thread have Thunder Fighters! I own 3 TFs myself and find them to be quite adequate. Haven't done much modding to my machines lately and that sux... need a track more than anything at the moment!!

Scotch tape sounds like a very unique idea. I've never seen drift tires up close but I'm gonna give the tape a try soon. Thanks!

hey CRX, my friend just came over and we played with the drift tires...they are plastic, but have groves in them....u can easily spin out with them.

my friend has a problem. his bit char g, initial d set, is going VERY slow...he chrages it until the light turns off and it runs really slow....we checked the gears and nothing was stuck in them. the motor sounds weak. he said that the battery doesnt smell right, i couldnt smell it because i have a cold. i dont know....it should be faster. he can walk faster than it. are bit char g's that slow when they are stock?

Your friend was pretty unfortunate. I personally love Intial D and intend to buy that exact same set except, it only comes with a 1.0 engine! Weakest of the weak, replace that sucker ASAP with a 2.2+ and he should be more satisfied. The other reason may be lack of traction from those drift tires but I bet it's the engine. I strongly suggest he get a Hotwheels MPH or RPM KIT Racing car at either Walmart or Zellers (they are only $10). He'll get a REAL Tomy 2.6 engine and real Tomy battery. Hopefully that helps him!

PS- I LOVE the look of that set. Something about the RX7 and AE86 that just screams classic and to be drifted.. damn drool all over now!

oh well... ralliart, C_CRX is absolutely right... the 1.0 is the weakest engine out there.... aside from a busted one... i thought that my bit had a problem when i first got it, having a 1.0.... but that's really how slow the motor is... at least i never ran it off my desk or anything =). some people say the torque is good, but i found that it sux... blue gears cant even make it run on carpet, while my 3.0(supposedly weak torque) can run thick carpet with teal gears...

as C_CRX said, anything 2.2 or above would make him happy... i hear kit racer motors have a better reputation, but i havent tested it... any confirmations from anyone here?

also, i hear that the drift set is Very useful for the suspension arms.. they do change the car's handling quite a bit, but probably the most useful thing to get is the tireset... i found that for any track, i can make my car handle any way i want it to, just mixing up the front and back according to the surface.. all i need now is to punch holes in that darn stiff white suspension thing..

C_CRX, if you're willing to wait til about mid april, you could get the Initial D set for about 45-50 dollars.. Canadian! that's even cheaper than a normal bit here... but if ur willing to wait :D

ps. i fixed my steering!! i got sooo mad and tore the thing apart again, straightened the spring, and bang! it steers straighter than when it came out of the box! for some reason, if the springs are bent downwards (looking from the side), like, hooked down a LITTLE bit, i think it works much better... but looking from the top, they should be straight.. :cool:

pie-- it's good to hear that the steerings back to normal and yes the kit racers are a definete must for all cars. i got the rpm and next time im in town i want to get a MPH/KPH one for anothor battery and extra motor just incase i let the smoke out of the on i am using. the RPM and the MPH/KPH have a real TOMY 2.6 motor and a TOMY battery (can't remember what MAh cuz i don't have it near me) so get either one if you want sticky tires get the RPM they are orange and you'll notice a big improvement. i even noticed that after i put the sticky tires on i went straiter because the back end won't slip and slide when i punch it off the line but it still will drift after the tires get some crap on them from the floor, so this is perfect, great grip off the line with clean tires and then you get to driving and it starts to drift because crap from the floor sticks to the tires.

ralliart-- your friend should also try to dubble charge the car. A 2.2+ motor will eat batterys faster than a 1.0 so this will also improve runtimes.

ahh ic...i have a tomy 2.6 and 3.0 rite now... (the 2.6 in a microsizer package, 3.0 in a bit racer package)... in about a week i'll have the time to go look around for the kit racers... i believe the batteries are still 50 mAh.. they're the same color and size (i think, even though i looked at it through the plastic chassis thingy) hmmm do the orange tires have treads on them? or are they simply slicks? my friend's pretty skilled with a knife, and he cut treads into the stock BCG tires... not only are they squishy soft, but now they grip like mad.. (unltil they pick up so much crap that they spin out)

i was thining.. how was that forklift thingy? cuz i was looking around, a 150 mAh battery sells for about 5-6 american on most sites... and well, if you just jack the batteries from that forklift, it's about the same price... and with dual cell 150 mAh, the run times are longer, and you get one hell of a speed boost...

you inspired me to take a look at the batterys and more importantly open this thing up to see the chip while i had it out here is a pic of the PCB

great idea i could use this pcb in a real bit to control the full directions forword backword (left motor up down button) left turn right turn (right motor up down button) slow pulsing circuit (forks up button) boost full dual cell (forks down button). I could then go farther by puting it into an atari controler or an old sega controler then i won't have to think about what button to push to go left and right.

i opened up the PCB last night and it was pretty scary. those wires are soooo thin. how do u get those out of the way when u are switching batteries?

pig, i said it once and i'll say it again... that forklift thing (if you're willing to part with it) can max out a bit... much like how to explained it, with that boost, you wouldnt need a booster car...! i have no idea about the electronix and how it's going to work...

but if you can get that to work, it'd start a whole new generation of... well it'd be a brand new thing... one that a Lot of people would want in on... i for one, would want in :D

im really thinkin about killing off that crip cap, now that my steering is straight... (go freak out my dad all the way across the house :p ) has anyone done this? it scares me a little, but not as much as those steering wires...

oh yeah, that reminds me... ralliart, anything small will work, just so long as you dont make any sudden motions just in case one of the wires tear... i hear a screwdriver is good to pry out the old battery, but if you want the real expert opinion on the inner workings of the chassis, ask C_CRX... he's (i think, correct me if im wrong) the only one of us with the guts to be trying a dual cell mod...

i got pretty good at messing with the steering.. but take it from me, dont fix it if it's not broken! whoaa man, i learned the hard way...

don't worry i am starting to get the courage to take these apart (it's a good thing that i have a relitively steady hand) any way i think that dump truck or something with normal steering would be a much better choice because of the fact that it would be easyer to control. i would take the forklift apart but i'm having just too much damn fun lifting my clone up and driving it around anyways i will take it apart and will check the dimentions on that PCB to see if it would fit easly. try to find them yourself at walmart thats where i found mine then you can take it apart and test for yourself two minds are better than one. Hopefully C_CRX will get one as they are here in Red Deer for sure just for the sake of bit science.

I think I may pick one up, for bit science of course. Which Walmart did you find these at, for how much? Which would be the best to get?
I should put my digital cam to better use and take some pics. Maybe I should even start a small canadian bit site to show how to do mods in greater detail. What say you?

Update- Modding has been extremely slow this weekend. Been sick and haven't done anything to my cars and didn't feel like going out to buy any new stuff. Need a better work area/desk than my current selection and a track also. Major drawback at the moment is lack of time/energy. Hopefully soon I can work more on my mods.

hey guys haven't posted in a while. Been busy modding etc.. I have almost completed my monstor truck with dual cell conversion. The only thing i need is a set of torque gears (blue if i recall correctly). Does anyone have the blue rear axle they don't want and would be willing to sell for cheap? Pics will be posted when i'm done for thoes who are interested.

The forklift looks quite interesting. The only thing is that thoes batteries look like 1/3 AAA 80 mAh NiCd batteries vs the stock 50 or 60 mAh NiCd batteries. For thoes of you who thought they were NiMH, i don't think they are unless it says on the battery. And whats this talk about the motor off the front of the forklift? Is it really fast or did i miss something?

As for modding and stuff. If any of you guys really aren't good with electronics and wanted mods to be done, if you wanted to ship it out to me i'd be happy to preform any mods (eg removal of crip cap, antenna wire addition, dual battery, etc...) you would like on it and then ship it back (as long as you cover shipping plus maybe something small for the work). Not trying to make money or anything just wanted to help you gusy out who don't have the resources or soldering skills. Let me know i woudl be more than happy to help.

C_CRX--- get well soon. I got the forklift from the walmart in the mall (Red Deer Center) you might try the dumptruck or crane because they have "real steering" instead of the rear wheel stearing lie the forklift. all of them have another function forklifts forks go up and down dump truck dumps ect...

Dieselboy-- there are three motors in the fork lift left wheel right wheel and another for the forks to go up and down and the batterys are in fact Ni-MH it says so on them.

The PCB on the forklift is bigger than the one on the cars but it has more functions (basicly the same as a Wild Char-G) i have some pics comparing the two.

ok the kitracer has a 50mAH NI-cd and my car has a 60mAH NI-cd should i have three choices:
1. i put the 50 on it anyways and see how fast it goes with it like that
2. i wait to get another kitracer and have 2 50's in it
3. go to Radio Shack and spend some money on the bigones i heard people using batterys as big as 100-150mAH each.

what would you do?

your not going to be able to find a 1/3AAA 160 mAh NiMH battery at radioshack. And in fact they are smaller than the 1/3 AAA NiCd batteries for some reason. Only by a couple millimeters but still.

Thats sweet the forklift came with 80 mAh NiMH batteries. Thoes would be quite good. No memory too so youcan charge them whenever without harming them.

that's a good idea tho, pig.... hmmm, maybe you could use a zz body... or even a lexan one, just big enough to be able to fit that new PCB, and also small enuf to fit the wheelbase of the clone chassis... oh, and i suggest (if you want the speed) go for 2 50s, and dual batt it... unless you want runtimes, in which case go grab the 160 mAh... make sure it's rechargeable tho!

C_CRX get better soon! i think the mod page is actually a pretty good idea... the thread here (although it's huge) has been going for a while.. and too many people posting clutter (like me) to be able to follow the mods closely... oh, and i found that a closed, empty room or enclosed desk is good for modding stuff... cuz i freaked myself out like 4 times with the damn steering spring.. it'd bounce into my backpack and i'd have to search for it for a few hours b4 finding it.... scary as hell..

dieselboy, how old are you? those mods are some pretty serious stuff... especially the monster truck, seeing as it involves some pretty deep thought.. i have a torque axle, but im not sure i wanna part with it... it helps my 2.6 out quite a bit, but if you really really need it... ...

Well, I'm still sick but I thought I should do a mod just so I could have something to get my mind of my damn coughing. I ended up doing a wire upgrade in my clone controller- replacing the smaller diameter wires with 22-guage stuff. Haven't tested it fully yet but all seemsto work well with only a few problems along the way (my solder joints were shiat since I'm not at my best ATM). Hoping it will allow for slightly more range! Thanks for all your kind words, seems 80% of people at my work have the same cold.
I'll start working on a small mod page soon when I have some time and find some space.
I also found the perfect desk for my modding. My roommate is moving out so I will have a spare desk (in his now empty room)! W00t!

Update - just tested my new mod. Seems to work very well. Could easily go 25 feet in my kitchen (with lots of interference and not entirely line of sight) with no stutter! Only problem is that gears on the car make it run slow and not for long. It uses red KIT racer gears and is only a single cell.

pie-- thats sad to hear, i heard something about that but wasn't really paying attention to it.

i guess im going to just wait for another kit racer then put two 50's in to it and aim for a wheelie my idea is to dremal out the back hole a little to make it bigger so the battery sits lower then put the battery cover from the kitracer onto it. hopfully this will look pretty cool.

hey c_crx, are thoes kit racer gears geared for torque or speed? I'm looking to make this monstor truck a torque monster. Do you guys know the ratio of the red gears for the kit racer or could you calculate them real quick for me c_crx? I know the blue greats are 12:1 from tomy so i might go with thoes. But if the kit racer red gears (?) have a higher ration i'll just grab one of thoes.
